A line, a curve, a river, a song.
Sonja Porcaro

Sonja Porcaro is an Adelaide based artist working predominantly in sculpture and installation to investigate notions of memory, place, uncertainty and the fluidity of language and representation.
Throughout her residency  Porcaro will explore the physical space of Sauerbier House (and surrounds) while considering the cultural/historical significance of the Ngangkiparinga (‘women’s river’) as a gesture to   support the wider community to consider their relationship with each other and to the location.

Surface
Rita Kellaway
Sun Room Studio | 29 September - 20 December

Within the City of Onkaparinga are many significant geological sites that show the ancient land formations of South Australia. Some sites date to the Neo-Proterozoic era (between 635 to 1000 million years ago).

Kellaway, an Adelaide-based artist with family links to the area, will use a series of local geological trail guides as a starting point to explore, capture (through 3D scanning, mould-making and casting) and then represent these rocks and formations in glass.

Rita will be organising Kym Dixon from the Field Geology Club of SA to give a short talk on the most interesting and significant geological rock formations in the Onkaparinga area- and there are many!  To be held in early November- keep an eye out for the date.  Also Rita is seeking photographs of local geological formations to be submitted with a view to including the most interesting ones in her exhibition in early December.  If you are interested to know more about either of these opportunities call Rita on 0422. 446 989.

CAN YOU SEA?
Bringing awareness to the impacts of our everyday choices.

Wooden sculpture of a seal
Carved by Indiana Noon, Year 12 student
Made from Cypress Pine

Artist statement:
"I created this sculpture as part of my year 12 project. I wanted to explore ways in which I could encourage the younger generation to take notice of their natural environment and the ways in which they could impact it. This is my way of combating the Climate Crisis we are facing. I liked the idea of depicting a marine animal because the oceans are a part of our world where it is harder for us to see the impacts of pollution. This presentation of a graceful, innocent creature tangled in a web of our littered rubbish is a very upsetting yet very real representation. My aim was not to make something that would dishearten the viewer but rather to inspire community members to consider their actions and decide where to make changes in their lives for the benefit of the natural world…and everyone in it.

I believe that raising awareness will lead to action.

The rubbish that surrounds the seal was donated and placed here by local school students and other members of the community. I thank them for their contributions and support.

I thank the City of Onkaparinga for the opportunity to temporarily display my sculpture."

Lockdown
THINK YOU KNOW THE TRUTH?
DEPENDS ON WHERE YOU STAND.

Hunter and Alex break into the school at night. The teachers all think they’re trouble makers anyway, so they might as well make it worthwhile, right? But Scribble and Z are also on their way, and Alana-Rey and JJ have destructive plans of their own. Paths cross, windows smash and friendships are tested.

Set just before lock-down due to a global pandemic, this play follows a group of teenagers who all surreptitiously choose the same night to prove friendships, enact revenge, and make sacrifices for the people they love.
What you think you know to be true depends significantly on where you’re standing.

An exploration of lived experiences, devised and performed by the ExpressWay Arts ensemble, a collection of young creatives from Adelaide’s southern suburbs.
