LU receives HR Excellence in Research!
Lund University has received EU’s acknowledgement, “HR Excellence in Research”. This means that LU fulfils many of the stringent EU requirements for a responsible and professional employer and will continue its work to support researchers’ career, professional development and working conditions. LU has committed to implement the principles of “The European Charter for Researchers and the Code of Conduct for the recruitment of researchers (European Charter & Code).
Researchers, departments, and are encouraged to refer to the award in grant applications, in advertisements of research positions, on web pages and in other material for current and prospective research staff. The logo will shortly be available on the HRS4R blog.

Events for ERC Starting Grant applicants

ERC Starting Grants workshop: Open to researchers who are planning to apply for an ERC Starting Grant (StG) with Lund University as their host institution. The workshop will be held in English via Zoom
Date: Tuesday, 13 October 2020, between 09:00 – 16:00.
Extra session and training camp for ERC Starting Grants: Apart from the ERC workshop on 13 October, Research Services will arrange two connected events with the aim of giving ERC StG applicants an extra boost in the 2021 call. You are welcome to register for these activities if you are planning to apply for an ERC Starting Grant in the 2021 call.
Dates: 22 October (kick-start your proposal writing, and receive feedback on your CV/Track Record) and week of January 18-22 (two-day training camp). Please register here (for all events) by 9 October 2020.

Save the date: Consolidator Grant workshop, 24 November 2020
The workshop will provide you with an in-depth overview and practical information on the ERC Consolidator Grants scheme, as well as deeper understanding of the proposal format and the key issues relating to planning, writing and costing a proposal. Attendance is free of charge. The workshop will be held in English, and it will be possible to attend via Zoom.
Date: Tuesday 24 November 2020, between 9.00 - 12.30.

The EU commission are inviting comments and feedback on their forthcoming framework program, Horizon Europe (following on from H2020), both for the overall strategic plan, and also for their ‘missions’. Answer the questionnaire for the strategic plan and the different focus areas (clusters).

The Pathfinder last open call under Horizon 2020
Do not miss the chance to participate!
The FET Innovation LaunchPad provide funding to projects aiming to transform results from Pathfinder/FET funded projects into societal or economic innovations. A lump sum up to EUR 100.000 per project is available to support short actions focused on non-scientific aspects and on turning early-stage Pathfinder results into a genuine innovation with socio-economic impacts.

Management rules 2021 MAW & MMW project applications (incl. WASP-HS)
The Lund University internal management rules for 2021 project applications to Marcus and Amalia Wallenberg Foundation (MAW) and the Marianne and Marcus Wallenberg Foundation (MMW), including projects aimed at The Wallenberg AI, Autonomous Systems and Software Program – Humanities and Society (WASP-HS), are now published.

Formas

Forte
Forte is a research council and a government agency under the Swedish Ministry of Health and Social Affairs, funding research within three main fields: health, working life and welfare.

The Wallenberg Foundations
Consists of public and private foundations formed by the Wallenberg family or established in memory of family members. The Foundations grant funding to excellent researchers and research projects beneficial to Sweden.
Ragnar Söderberg Foundation
The Foundation prioritizes research focused on medicine, economy and law. Funding is granted younger researchers that has already demonstrated high academic skill and novel ideas.
Riksbankens Jubileumsfond
RJ supports research in the Humanities and Social Sciences.
The Swedish Cancer Society (Cancerfonden)
One of the largest financiers of cancer research in Sweden. Funding of research projects, care development projects, courses and collaborations, scientific meeting attendance, etc.
The Swedish Heart-Lung Foundation
The fund supports numerous fields of research connected to myocardial infarction, heart failure, vascular spasms, genetic heart defects, stroke, asthma, COPD and emphysema, among others.
The Swedish Brain Foundation (Hjärnfonden)
Supports research and distribute information about the brain and its diseases, injuries and disabilities. The foundation awards scholarships and grants to researchers and research groups to enable or enhance important research.

The Knowledge Foundation (KK-stiftelsen)
The knowledge foundation funds research and competence development at Sweden’s university colleges and new universities with the purpose of strengthening Sweden’s competitiveness.
Mistra
Mistra invests in research aimed at solving key environmental problems and promoting Sweden’s future competitiveness.
Swedish Foundation for Strategic Research
Funds research in science, engineering and medicine. Research group and individual grants, graduate school grants and grants to promote greater mobility.
STINT

The Royal Swedish Academy of Letters (Kungl. Vitterhetsakademien)
The Royal Swedish Academy of Letters, History and Antiquities (Kungl. Vitterhets Historie och Antikvitets Akademien) supports the humanities, religious studies, jurisprudence and social science disciplines and cultural heritage, primarily through financial support and academic publishing.
Knowledge Frontiers Symposium, theme Natures, Cultures, Communities, in collaboration with The British Academy
Date and venue: 24–25 Februari 2021, Royal Swedish Academy of Letters in Stockholm
Target audience: Early career researchers in the humanities and social sciences
The symposium aims to incentivise and establish international engagement and collaboration between early career researchers from Sweden and the United Kingdom from a broad range of disciplines within the humanities and social sciences, encouraging the exchange of ideas across both disciplinary and national boundaries.

Läromedelsförfattarna: Copying scholarship
Authors of study course literature are welcomed to apply for contributions. In 2019 scholarships worth approximately 19 MSEK were distributed. The Swedish Society for Medical Research (SSMF) offers a new and attractive three-year postdoctoral grant, intended to cover salary, and providing more time for research. This replaces the previous two-year scholarship format. Half-time employments are accepted for those who are clinically active.

Azrieli International Postdoctoral Fellowship
The Azrieli Foundation is launching its revamped International Postdoctoral Fellowship for research at Israeli universities in STEM, Humanities and Social Sciences. This new program is aimed at bringing 24 outstanding postdoctoral students from Europe and Canada to Israel, each year. The value of the Fellowship is approximately € 47,000 (ILS 188,000) per year, including funds reserved for research and travel.

SFF contribution to adjunct professor
The Swedish Foundation for Strategic Research (SSF) has allocated SEK 15 million for about 10 grants in an Adjunct Professorship program. This call is directed to highly-qualified individuals employed by Swedish industry, government agency or health care provider who seeks appointment as adjunct professor at a Swedish Higher Education Institution (HEI) for a period of 3-6 years to an extent of at least 20 percent. During the exchange period the Adjunct Professor shall conduct strategic research that meets the Foundations’ purpose.

Opportunities with Östersjöstiftelsen
Östersjöstiftelsen, The Foundation for Baltic and East European Studies, funds research, doctoral studies and scientific infrastructure. Note that some connection (grant management, collaborating researcher, etc.) to Södertörn University is necessary (type of connection varies with call). Funding is annonced for
Research Networks: Creating new networks of researchers or maintaining ones that are already established. The project period is a maximum of one year and the amount of grant is a maximum of SEK 150,000.
Grand projects are those undertaken by a group comprising at least four researchers, with a joint, coherent research task. The project period is four to five years and the amount of grant is a maximum of SEK 5 million a year.
Postdoctoral projects: Salary funding for postdoctoral projects may be applied for to cover 80–100% of a full-time annual position for two years. Open to researchers at higher education institutions both in and outside Sweden.
Two- and three-year projects: Eligible to apply is an individual researcher or small group of researchers. The project period is two or three years and the amount of grant is a maximum of SEK 2 million a year.

STIAS Fellowships (all areas)
STIAS provides and maintains an independent ‘creative space for the mind’ to advance the cause of science and scholarship across all disciplines. It is global in its reach and local in its African roots, and values original thinking and innovation in this context. The idea is that distinguished researchers shall be given the opportunity to engage in undistracted research, achieved by a sustained (1-3 month or more) stay at STIAS. Admittance to the STIAS programme is either by invitation or by application. STIAS welcomes fellowship applications on a semester deadline basis.
Applications by Swedish researchers will be considered within the framework of support provided by the Marianne and Marcus Wallenberg Foundation, or in the case of applications related to STIAS Theme projects, the Knut and Alice Wallenberg Foundation.
Current round closes: 30 November 2020 (for 1st semester 2022)

COST Action proposal
The European Cooperation in Science and Technology (COST) is a funding organisation for the creation of international research networks, called COST Actions.
COST funding intends to complement national research funds, as they are exclusively dedicated to cover collaboration activities, such as workshops, conferences, working group meetings, training schools, short-term scientific missions, and dissemination and communication activities.
A COST Action proposal can be submitted at any time of the year. Proposals are collected up to twice a year.

STINT Initiation Grants 2020
The purpose of STINT’s activity is to strengthen the competitiveness of Swedish universities and colleges through the development of international relationships. Initiation grants are given for the implementation of short-term projects targeting the building of new and strategically interesting international relationships.

SSMF Travel grants for doctoral students
The Swedish Society for Medical Research (Svenska Sällskapet för Medicinsk Forskning, SSMF) awards travel grants to doctoral students pursuing preclinical and clinical medical research in Sweden.
Call is only open to registered doctoral students who have co-authored and published at least one peer-reviewed article. Travel may begin no earlier than one month after the application deadline.
Applications may be submitted electronically four times per year with deadlines 1 March, 1 June, 1 September and 1 December. The application system opens 2 weeks prior to the deadlines.

Humbolt Scholarships for Post-Doctoral Training on Sustainable Development in Germany (all areas)
A Humboldt Research Fellowship for postdoctoral researchers allows you to carry out long-term research (6-24 months) in Germany. Applicants choose their own topic of research. Researchers from outside Germany at the beginning of their academic career with a completed doctorate in the last four years may apply.

The Marcus Wallenberg Prize
The Prize is awarded to recognize, encourage and stimulate path-breaking scientific achievements which contribute significantly to broader knowledge and/or technical development within all subjects relevant to the forest-based sector all over the world. Nominations of candidates are accepted via an internet-form or by e-mail or mail, at any time of the year, and are considered by the Marcus Wallenberg Prize Selection Committee in a continuous process.
