Maprun Fun League

Aylsham Water Pump - the Start / Finish (image from Wikimedia Commons)

A reminder that the next round of the NOR Maprun Fun League starts on Sunday  4th October) in Aylsham. Details are already on the NOR Maprun page of the website and the map will be uploaded at some point on Thursday. If anyone fancies meeting up with other club members, then a group usually meet up at 10:00 on the first Sunday that the event goes live, followed by drinks after their run.

For those who have not checked the website or who are not on facebook, the results from Round 1 (Swardeston & Mulbarton) are below. Round 2 (Dereham finishes on Saturday (3rd October). Unsurprisingly (due to the horrible weather), not many people ran the course last weekend, so almost all of the scores are from the first Sunday. Hopefully, the weather will be better this Saturday, or maybe make it a bit more interesting by running it at night! Current Leader Board is here.

Some notes about the scoring system:
  • There are separate competitions for women and men. Prizes are undecided - it may just be for the honour.
  • A competitor's League Score will be the total of their best 5 results (of the 8).
  • If a competitor scores maximum points in an event, they get a bonus of 10 points for each whole minute that they are under the maximum time for that event. See Glen's result, where he missed getting an extra 10 points by 4 seconds.
  • Each score is re-based as if the maximum score for the event is 1,000, and
  • The BOF "pace factor", which tries to account for age and gender, is applied to each score, and
  • The score is rounded down to the next whole number. This gives the League Points.
So, a W40 scoring 420 points on a course with a maximum score of 560 would get 1086 league points.:

                                   420 * 1000 / (560 * 0.69) = 1086

Note for Juniors: Maprun is developed by an Australian and they seem to have different classes to those we use in the UK. For example, they have 10 - 14 and 15 - 19. If I have got your age class wrong, then let me know and I will change it. In the UK, an M/W 16, for example, is someone who has their 15th or 16th birthday in 2020.
