The Wide World of Technology
The University of Memphis was recently listed in the Times Higher Education World University Rankings for the first time, providing evidence our University is successfully broadening its reach across the globe.
This edition of Around the World shines a bright light on that fact, especially as it pertains to the impressive contributions our international students are making in increasingly important technology fields.
The cover story features Iranian graduate student Behzad Fotovvati, who combined his knowledge of mechanical engineering with his passion for helping others to help produce protective equipment for medical personnel and essential workers during the COVID-19 health emergency. Other UofM students from India, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Mexico and Nepal also share their stories as students in technology areas of study.
Many of our international students were forced to cancel plans of returning home for the summer and struggled to find or keep employment due to the pandemic. Our Center for International Education Services worked tirelessly to assist these students, and the University's international partners within the Memphis community stepped forward to provide invaluable food drives and donations. We thank them for their generosity and commitment to the UofM.
We also invite you to read about the many remarkable study abroad experiences available to UofM students, our unique relationship with Chuo Gakuin University in Japan and much more in this edition of Around the World.
Sincerely,
M. David Rudd
