My prayer for reading scripture:
God, guide us as we read our Bibles, let us learn its stories and study its words. Its stories belong to us all, and these words speak to us all. They tell us who we are. They tell us that we belong to one another, for we are your people. Let us join together that we may hear your voice with each new word. In Christ we pray, Amen.

Hello friends,
In our worship service tonight, as well as at home this week, our 3rd Grade Students will receive their Bibles. These may not be their first Bibles but are often the first with the whole story, the hard stories, the wondrous stories and the stories that connect us to God. I invite you to be in prayer for the following four kids, that they may hear God’s voice in their reading and know God’s love in all they do.
- Emma Hilscher
- Harper Kelley
- Ethan Kemerling
- Grace Renwick
As with all our young disciples, we encourage them in their faith, in their questions and in the seeking of answers.
In Christ’s Peace this day and always,
Pastor Sara

Mission Team Fundraiser
With all the changes in our world, the Mission Team has decided to try a different type of fundraiser this year. You can purchase a package of notecards, with pictures from the Dominican Republic to send notes of encouragement to your friends and family. The notecards come with a fountain pen. You can also purchase a hand-made journal and fountain pen, to use as a gift or to start your own journal.
The journals are $25 and the notecards are $10. All proceeds will go to future mission trips.
These will be available at the church during regular hours,or you can email Pastor Sara ( pastorsara@flameoffaithumc.org) or Carol Knodle ( merrilkno@aol.com) to buy one.

WHAT IS SHOEBOX CHRISTMAS?
Shoebox Christmas is a program that provides Christmas gifts to children in need in the Dakotas and Minnesota. This past Christmas over 6,500 gifts were donated and distributed in the tri-state area. In South Dakota, the Crow Creek and Pine Ridge reservations and the Enemy Swim School near Sisseton. In North Dakota, the Spirit Lake Nation and the Turtle Mountain reservations. In Minnesota, the Red lake Reservation. Several Churches in all three states also received gifts.
WHAT’S IN A SHOEBOX?
Love. Shoebox Christmas gifts are built from love for children that might not otherwise get a Christmas gift. On the reservation, up to 70 percent of the children would not get a Christmas gift if not for the Shoebox Christmas Gift program and the generosity of the people that donate to this wonderful program. To start, wrap the bottom and top of the box separately (this will allow us to insert the story of the birth of Jesus). If you have children, grandchildren, nieces or nephews ask them if they would like to help you shop for those less fortunate children. While shopping remember all items must fit in a shoebox. We are looking for the following age groups, infant, toddler, 3-5, 6-8, 9-12, 13 and up. Please put a winter hat, mittens or gloves but no other clothing in the box. Other items can include toothbrush, toothpaste, comb, hairbrushes, ribbons and bows for girls, crayons, toy matchbox cars for boys, handheld games, cards, etc. Please only add new items to the box and remember to have the items age appropriate for the age group you are buying for. Place a rubber band around the box and put the gender of the child and the age group on the top of the box. You have just built a box of love. You can do as many boxes as you wish.
These shoeboxes should be back at the church by the middle of November as they will go to Spirit Lake Nation by Devils Lake. If you have any questions or concerns or need someone to pick up your box please call Carol J at (701) 361-0071.
Thank you for supporting the Flame of Faith Mission Committee.

Throughout the 1980's and 1990's, Darryl Strawberry was heralded as one of the top sluggers in Major League Baseball. However, life after baseball wasn’t glorious. Drug abuse, arrest, cancer and divorce left him with a deep sense of hopelessness. Join us as Darryl shares his compelling story of recovery and life transformation.
