From the Principal

Dear Parkiew Families,

I appreciate your patience as we establish our routines, both Digitally and in our Hybrid models. We are learning every day and continue to find new ways to meet the needs of our students.

On Wednesdays, teachers are providing at-home independent learning activities for students posted via Schoology and/or Seesaw. Classroom teachers will not be setting up Zoom meetings with students on Wednesdays.
Every Wednesday is designated as time for teacher collaboration, planning, professional learning, and communication. This time has been critical for our staff as we are planning for our students learning at in tandem both at school and at home.

Zoom Common Practices:
  • Hybrid Model: There are not expectations to have Zoom meetings for the students that are at home engaging in independent learning by the classroom teacher.
  • Digital Academy: Students and classroom teachers meet Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday, virtually for Zoom sessions, including Morning Meeting, at designated times based on the schedule determined at the building level.
I would like to offer a few reminders to how we can find success with our “At Home” learning experience for all students.
  • Create a learning space that your student can identify as the at home space for learning digitally.  The space should be comfortable for learning, consistent and as free from distraction.
  • We want to be sure we are cognizant of the student learner; parents/guardians and other family members should practice strong awareness when they are near the zoom learner.  We want to avoid distractions for the student and whole class when the student is unmuted.
  • Please notify the school if you experience Ipad issues, we are here to help.
I want to thank you for your support in creating our learning spaces at home.  The success of our digital learning begins with creating the right space, avoiding distractions and making sure all the tools are working the right way.

In Partnership,
Nicole Garcia, Principal

Be on the Lookout!

Missing Chromebooks and Parts

Please be on the alert for Lenovo Chromebooks and chargers that may still be at your home if you checked out a computer last summer. We're still waiting on fifteen computers and eighteen chargers. Next week these computers will become disabled as their checkout period expires.

Next Week

No School: October 7

Next Wednesday there is no school due to a Staff Development Day. Teachers will not be posting learning activities on October 7 and it is a day off for students.

National Walk to School Day

A lot of things are looking different this school year and our walk to school day is going to be one of them. National Walk to School Day is October 7th this year. Students are not scheduled to be in school this day, so parents who live within walking distance are invited to pick a day that week to walk with your child to school. Please keep our social distancing guidelines in practice and say good bye to your child prior to approaching their grade level entrance. And, we appreciate all adults and K-5 students wearing a mask.

At Parkview, we plan to use our PE time on Monday, October 5th and Tuesday, October 6th to walk with students around Valley Lake to help honor this special day.

Coming Soon

  • Tuesday, October 27 for Cohort B
  • Wednesday, October 28 for Digital Academy
Ordering information will be coming out in the next few weeks. We will be working on a schedule for our digital students to attend.

USDA Extends Free Meals For Parkview Students

The U.S. Department of Agriculture has announced a short-term extension to its free meals program and will provide school meals at no cost to all Parkview students.

The program will last until funding runs out.  We will announce when the program ends.  Until then, all Parkview students are eligible to receive free breakfast and lunch every school day, whether in school or distance learning at home.  Accurate food orders will need to be taken to account for each free meal served to students.
  • To order meals for your child to bring home for distance learning days, complete the District 196 take-home meal kit survey by clicking HERE
  • If your child is enrolled in the 196 Digital Academy and you would like to receive a five-day meal kit each week, complete the 196 Digital Academy five-day meal kit survey by clicking HERE
We strongly encourage families who may qualify for free or reduced price meals to still complete their annual application for meal benefits to avoid being charged for meals once this additional funding runs out.  To complete the application please visit the District 196 Food and Nutrition Services website by clicking HERE.
