2020 AFRICAN STUDIES ASSOCIATION TEACHERS' WORKSHOP
 
SATURDAY NOVEMBER 14TH, 2020
12pm - 8pm US-EST

The Outreach Council will be hosting the Annual Teachers' Workshop on November 14th 2020, online.  A full day of workshops and sessions on a variety of topics will be offered. Program and registration will be posted soon. For more information visit asaoutreach.org
 
Water Rodney Online Lecture Series
 
The Walter Rodney lectures  are online this year and are free and open to the public. Please take advantage of this unique opportunity! Teachers attending can email africa@bu.edu to receive PDP points for participation in one or several events.

RECENT EVENTS
Decolonial Perspectives on Teaching about African History for K-12 educators.
 
The Outreach Program hosted Dr. George Sefa Dei of the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education this past month. Dr. Dei provided a broad-reaching foundational lens for teaching about African history in ways that are committed to humanizing, complex, and authentic practice. The recording of the lecture is available on our website under "Watch Past Events."
 
TEACHING AFRICA TEACHER CERTIFICATE PROGRAM
Now inviting applications! 
 
The Teaching Africa Teacher Certificate Program supports pre-service and in-service K-12 teachers who are interested in deepening their knowledge of Africa in its global context. The program is a mix of key courses and workshops as well as a curriculum design project that prepares teachers to become education leaders and innovators in teaching about Africa. The program promotes a community of practice on culturally relevant instruction and is committed to flexibility and affordability in fulfilling certificate completion requirements.

DYNAMIC SOCIETIES OF ANCIENT & MEDIEVAL AFRICA
ONLINE COURSE

November 10 - December 15, 2020

There are still a few spots left in the upcoming Dynamic Societies of Ancient and Medieval Africa course that will illuminate the longevity and dynamism of African civilizations, cultural developments, and connectedness to the world, with an emphasis on sub-Saharan regions in the ancient and medieval eras. Each of four sessions will trace a different theme across a set of case studies and contexts: geography and environment; trade, exchange and cultural diffusion; knowledge and belief; and social structure and governance. Especially for educators of grades 6-12.
Dates: November 10 - December 15, 2020

*Teaching Africa Teachers Certificate Participants receive a 25% discount on tuition.
