Since 2009, the Earth Observatory of Singapore (EOS) has been answering fundamental questions on geohazards in Southeast Asia. EOS welcomes new leadership at its helm, strengthening collaboration and building capacity in a continued effort to build safer and more sustainable societies in the region.

EOS Director
Professor Benjamin Horton takes over the reins as EOS Director. He is an international authority in the fields of Sea-Level Research and Environmental and Coastal Sciences. He was formerly Acting Chair of the Asian School of the Environment (ASE).

Director of Research and Strategy
Associate Professor Emma Hill now leads the strategic research initiatives at EOS. She is a specialist in space geodesy, remote sensing and numerical modelling. Her research is improving our knowledge of natural hazards and sea-level change in Southeast Asia.

Celebrate online with us as we launch Climate Impact Asia. EOS created the new documentary series in collaboration with CuriosityStream. The series looks at the impacts of our changing climate on Southeast Asia.
The series follows a team of EOS scientists in their work across four key areas. These are Sea Level Rise, Coastal Hazards, Food Security and Tectonic & Volcanic Activity.

EOS owes an insurmountable debt of gratitude to Director Emeritus Kerry Sieh for his immense contributions to the success of EOS. Our Founding Director now embarks on his next endeavours. His legacy is EOS, a research institute dedicated to strengthening humanity’s resilience to geohazards.

We would like to thank Professor Fidel Costa for his leadership during his time as EOS Interim Director. He is now the Chair of ASE. He remains a Principal Investigator at EOS, where he researches volcanology, mineral thermodynamics, and natural hazards.
