Dear Subscriber,
As we head into fall, we can look back at a summer that was unlike anything we could have anticipated. We could never have foreseen the fact that we would be living through a global pandemic that has changed the way we think and operate and do business. Sitka is a community that, usually, sees thousands of cruise ship passengers every day for 5 months, but not this year. At the Science Center, our summers are, usually, bustling with tourists, visiting researchers, summer campers, and seasonal staff, but not this year.
As an organization, we have (and will continue to) adapted and changed "what we have always done" to meet the circumstances. We are seeing science, and the scientific process, at work everyday. As we approach the last few months of what has been a tumultuous year, it is exciting to see so many tuned back into science and the answers it can provide.
So, while we can look back and think about all that couldn't be done this year, it is so much better to focus on what we have done, and can continue to do. Instead of thinking about the crowds and guests that we didn't see, let's focus on how we brought science to people right where they are; on how we continue to think of new ways to reach out with science.
