Woodfield Newsletter
Friday 2nd October 2020
It's the end of the second week with all pupils back, and so far, things have gone pretty well. Pupils and staff are making sure that hands are washed regularly, social distancing measures are followed and staff are using masks and PPE when working closely with pupils. It appears nationally that there are localised 'mini epidemics' or clusters that are experiencing high levels of transmission and infection, whilst most other areas are keeping the virus under control.
During the lockdown in April, we surveyed parents regarding the internet access and equipment available to pupils at home. We are sending out another survey today, just so we have updated information in case we are required to return to teaching via the internet for some or all of the pupils. The information you supply will enable us to plan more effectively for a lockdown, and target support to families more effectively if such a situation arises. Please click here to complete the survey. It should take no more than a couple of minutes of you time.
Tuesday 6th October at 10.45 am - all parents
Parent Virtual session to discuss the start of the term. Parents will get the chance to discuss the procedures we have in place and how we are currently supporting pupils learning thru the recovery curriculum and what this entails. Please make sure we have your current email address so that the link will be sent on the day. If you would like more information, please contact Patsy.
Take-Home Breakfast Packs
We have been informed that we are still eligible for support for the Autumn term. Due to the current Covid19 pandemic, we are limiting the amount of contact our pupils have so the club will not run however Magic Breakfast is able to provide "Take Home Food Packs" for pupils. Each take-home food pack will include a two-week supply of breakfast per child:
1 pack of 5 fresh bagels
1 box of cereal and/ or 1 box of Oat So Simple Original Porridge
Please note that none of their cereals contains nuts as an ingredient, but some of their products are produced in factories that also handle nuts.
If you are interested in this scheme and would like a pack sent home with your child, please contact Patsy

Woodfield Response to Infection
Anyone who has coronavirus (COVID-19) symptoms, or who has someone in their household who does, does not attend school.
Inform the school that your child will be absent and the reasons for absence in the usual manner.
Anyone who displays symptoms of coronavirus (COVID-19) can and should get a test.
Tests can be booked online through the NHS testing and tracing for coronavirus website, or ordered by telephone via NHS 119 for those without access to the internet.
Please review these documents outlining the procedures for a child developing Covid symptoms at home, and what we will do if a child develops Covid symptoms at school.
If a member of a class (pupil or adult) test positive for Covid, we contact the PHE advice team for schools. They may decide for that child's class to isolate according to the guidelines, that child's class and bus route group to isolate according to the guidelines, or take other measures. The decision will be made by the PHE on a case by case basis, and we will inform the parents as soon as we have the information available.
In the event of a bus route, class or school closure, our priorities for pupils, families and staff are to maintain contact between pupil and class teams, and ensure all pupils are able to access online learning. Full details are in this document. Please read this and contact us if you have any questions.
Translation of guidance for parents and carers on early years providers, schools and colleges in the autumn term
The DfE have translated the guidance for parents and carers with children in nursery, school, or college in the autumn term.
The guidance is now available in the following languages:
Snacks
The school will not be able to provide a morning snack, so we ask parents to provide their child with a snack if they choose to do so. Please refer to the documents below for more details regarding snacks and lunches.
We urge parents to review the healthy eating guidelines in regard to the snacks, drinks and lunches they bring into school. Please note we are a nut free school.
Until further notice, drinking fountains etc around the school are out of use. Please ensure your child brings in a bottle of water clearly labelled with their name. If your child is bringing in a snack or lunch, please ensure any containers are clearly named. There is no refrigeration of foods possible, so bear this in mind when you are preparing food for your child.

Uniform
Thank you to all those pupils coming in full correct uniform. Parents please help us by ensuring your child is leaving the house with the correct uniform on in the mornings. See the uniform page on the school website for a complete list of what is allowed and what is not. The correct uniform is:
- Black school trousers or skirt (skirt a minimum of knee length)
- White Polo shirt
- Black Vee Neck school jumper
- Black shoes with flat soles
- Black or white socks
- Plain White vest or T-Shirt to be worn under the polo shirt if needed
If you have specific concerns, please contact us to discuss.
Social Media
As the students return to new normality and school rules please be reminded to supervise their use of social media. Use of Whatsapp, Snapchat, Facebook, Houseparty, etc, to ensure communications are positive and inoffensive and safe. A reminder, some of these social media accounts have age restrictions therefore your child may be at risk if they are unsupervised, setting up and/or using these apps. An excellent guide for keeping your child safe can be viewed here.
The Parent Zone parent guides for different apps and websites is an excellent place to understand how to keep your child safer on the internet.
