Old People’s Home for 4 Year Olds is a heart-warming documentary series, based around a unique social experiment. Over a seven-week period, a group of ten older retirement home residents were brought together with a group of ten preschoolers to see if this inter-generational contact improved the health and well-being of the older people and helped them to lead happier, and healthier lives.
Every day, they all took part in planned, mixed activities in a specially designed nursery built within a care/retirement home. There was a shared structured timetable encouraging physical activity, social interaction, learning, and happiness. Overseeing this social experiment was a team of scientists, early childhood experts, and gerontologists who monitored the progress of both groups throughout, tracking quantifiable and measurable changes, results from the experiment to the health and well-being of the older group, and the developmental growth of the children. The filmmakers were there every step of the way.
Old People’s Home for 4 Year Olds earned Gold for Social Issues from the Grand Jury and was awarded the UNDGC Silver from the United Nations.
So, here’s to the storytellers: the filmmakers, journalists, cinematographers, sound designers, creative directors, writers, directors, and producers whose passion and imagination transport us. And who could be receiving awards in 2021!
