Hosted by BioHouston and the Rice Alliance, the Texas Life Science Forum is the premier life science event in Texas that brings together members from industry, emerging life science companies, academics, and investors. Life Science Forum presenters will have the opportunity to give a quick pitch to 500+ venture capitalists, corporate innovation groups, angel networks, industry leaders, academics and service providers. In addition, all presenters will have an opportunity to meet with attendees in the afternoon during a dedicated virtual showcase session and participate in office hours following the forum. Scheduled at the request of investors, office hours are introductory, 1-on-1 meetings with venture capitalists, corporate innovation groups and angel investors.

TiE Houston Closes Investment Round with RBPC Grand Prize Winner, Aurign

Congrats to the TiE Houston Angels and Aurign, the Grand Prize Winner of the 2020 Rice Business Plan Competition (RBPC), who just closed their $115,000 seed investment. TiE's association with the RBPC started in 2006 with their participation as RBPC judges. Thanks to Hubert Vaz-Nayak for leading this year’s investment in Aurign for the TiE Houston Angels. 

2015 RBPC Finalist, Hyliion, Goes Public and the Founder Is Set To Be One of America’s Youngest Self-Made Billionaires 

Hyliion, a 2015 RBPC finalist from Carnegie Mellon University and past presenter at the Energy Tech Venture Forum, is the first Rice Business Plan Competition alum to go public—announced earlier this year on the final day of the 2020 RBPC. Thomas Healy, 28, will become one of America’s youngest self-made billionaire this week as shareholders of publicly traded Tortoise Acquisition Group vote to acquire Hyliion, the Austin-based heavy-duty electric truck company that Healy founded. Join Rice Alliance for a discussion during the Center for Houston's Future Low Carbon Energy Summit 

The Center for Houston's Future's second annual Low Carbon Energy Summit will highlight our region’s progress in accelerating Houston’s development as a leader in the energy transition and focus on innovation and the technologies and players making Houston a low carbon energy capital. IdeaLaunch Kicks Off Third Cohort 

IdeaLaunch, a learn-by-doing startup bootcamp, kicked off a third cohort on Tuesday, September 29. Open to Rice affiliates and the Houston community, this program is designed to help entrepreneurs develop nascent business ideas. IdeaLaunch provides a framework for participants to explore their startup ideas without a large time commitment. Ideas span various industries, including agriculture, sustainability, transportation, healthcare, public safety, education, and construction.
