Hello friends,

Exciting things happening this month!

We officially welcome Bishop Ronald Hicks as the sixth bishop of the diocese of Joliet! You can watch the installation mass here. Bishop Hicks also celebrated the diocesan college mass on Sunday October 4th at Saint Francis University. You can watch the mass and listen his reflection on friendship here

Many young adult communities around the diocese are starting to gather again (with precautions, of course) and we will also host Theology on Tap on Catholic social teaching and political life! We hope you can join us and learn together what we are called to do as faithful citizens.

Blessings from the YAM team, Mayra and Yazmin.

Young Adult & Campus Ministry Coordinator

After much prayer and discernment, Sheila Stevenson decided to retire from her position as Director of Young Adult & Campus Ministry of the Diocese of Joliet effective September 30th. She is happy to start this new stage of her life as a pre-K teacher for her granddaughter and enjoy time with her husband who has been retired for 5 years.

We are excited  to continue collaborating with such an amazing woman while she stays as volunteer in different initiatives in our diocese! Her energetic creativity and passion for evangelization has been a blessing to our diocese, specially to young adults and those who minister to and with them. A great mentor for many of us and true example of missionary discipleship.

Sheila, thank you for all you have done for God's people in our diocese these past 15 years. Our Lord has touched many hearts through you and the fruits of your labor have not gone unnoticed; they will sustain this office for years to come!

Please join us in wishing Sheila the best in this new journey and let’s continue to pray for her and her family!

RESPECT LIFE MONTH

Each October the Church in the United States celebrates Respect Life Month, and the first Sunday of October is observed as Respect Life Sunday. As Catholics, we are called to cherish, defend, and protect those who are most vulnerable, from the beginning of life to its end, and at every point in between. During the month of October, the Church asks us to reflect more deeply on the dignity of every human life. Simple steps are provided to help you celebrate Respect Life Month.

  1. Reflect
  2. Pledge
  3. Pray
  4. Learn More
  5. Share
  6. Stay Connected

The call to holiness is the call to live out who God made you to be. It’s not about sinless perfection. It is about Christ-like reflection. Holiness calls for Christ to be FULLY ALIVE wherever we are. It’s not about an extraordinary act, it is in the ordinary that we can be Holy in ourselves, in our Family, in our Work, and in our Community. Our community has always united people through prayer. While the pandemic creates division, we continue to stand together amidst these difficult times to live out our true calling: to be holy, for God is Holy.

"The glory of God is man FULLY ALIVE!” -St. Irenaeus

World Mission Sunday is October 18!
We are called through our Baptism to be part of the Church’s missionary efforts, through prayer, self-sacrifice, and support of the Mission Church through material aid. This year, Pope Francis asks us to respond to that call, saying, “Here I Am, Send Me!” To “send” ourselves, we can: PRAY for the Church’s worldwide missionary work OFFER financial HELP and CHARITY through the collection for the Society for the Propagation of the Faith for vulnerable communities throughout Asia, Africa, Latin America and the Pacific Islands. “Fratelli tutti”
Short summary of Pope Francis's Social Encyclical

Fraternity and social friendship are the ways the Pontiff indicates to build a better, more just and peaceful world, with the contribution of all: people and institutions. With an emphatic confirmation of a ‘no’ to war and to globalized indifference.
