Theme of the Month

Happy October, Sparkin' STEM family! This month, we'll be providing you with resources and challenges based on chemistry! Chemistry is all around us, and we'll be exploring science experiments, revolutions in chemistry, and even the chemistry inside you! Keep reading to find out more! We've also conducted 2 High School Q&A informational sessions so far, and you can watch them below!

CHECK THIS OUT!

You can learn how the periodic table gets new elements!
From discovery to confirmation and naming, the path is rarely simple to find new elements.

ACTIVITY OF THE MONTH
Challenge of the Month:
For this month's challenge, we want you to participate in our science experiment series! 4 of our videos are focused on chemistry concepts, and we want you to explore them!

Complete any of the 4 experiments shown below, and submit a picture or video to us of you doing the experiment! (Your face does not need to be visible).Remember, winners of the challenge are recognized on our website, social media, and get a customized certificate!

Question of the Month: What's the history of the atom?

It took many different scientists to come up with the current model of an atom we have today! From John Dalton who imagined it as a billiard ball, to J.J. Thompson's model which is similar to a raisin bun, it's been hundreds of years since Greek philosophers first proposed the idea that everything was made of tiny atoms!

Interesting Facts!
1. Every hydrogen atom in your body is likely 13.5 billion years old because they were created at the birth of the universe!

2. Diamond and graphite are both entirely made of carbon and nothing else!

3.  Mars is red because of iron oxide.

4. The only letter not appearing on the periodic table is J.

5.
Helium balloons float because helium is lighter than air!
