Morlan Gallery hosts artist Beauvais Lyons to discuss his work and mock-documentation as part of the FACT/itious exhibition
Register in advance here
We live in a world of “fake news” and “alternate facts.” For the past four decades Beauvais Lyons from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, whose work can be seen as part of Morlan Gallery's FACT/itious exhibition, has been creating artwork that explores the limits of human belief. Using the conventions of the science or history museum, Lyons has created works of mock-documentation that present imaginary archaeology, medicine, folk art, and zoology as “real.” His most recent project involves the creation of an imaginary circus. For this lecture, he will offer a context for understanding his work in relation to the history of science and art and work by other artists who create mock-documentary works of parafiction.
