Beloved Community,

It was so wonderful to be together with you for the Days of AWE, Yamim Noraim. It was moving to feel how we were connected and present in these new ways in these new times. We very much want to hear your thoughts and feedback. What was meaningful for you? What moved you? What surprised you? What did you long for? What did you find frustrating? Please share your thoughts here

From walking with grief and gratitude and AWE we enter into the JOY of Sukkot. Yes, from grief and awe into a deeper connection with Life, Beauty, Joy - the open air medicine of z’man simchatenu, the season of our joy. The tradition invites us to build a sukkah (myjewishlearning.com) and to be outside everyday for a week.

Sukkot begins this Friday night 10/2 and we will welcome it in with a Nefesh Shabbat 7pm. Zoom: Register for Shabbat this Friday

On Sukkot the tradition tells us to invite guests, ushpizin, into our sukkah. To do this Nefesh will host virtual potluck gatherings over Zoom during the week of Sukkot. You bring the meal and the outdoors (with or without a sukkah - or indoors, feeling the outdoors) and Nefesh community will host meaningful conversation and connection. Each potluck will give a chance for different parts of our community to come together:

That is a full week of Sukkot goodness! And…. Sunday 10/11 is Simchat Torah! We are working on plans for a joyful bike, car, scooter, caravan for Simchat Torah - stay tuned.

This week the Tikkun Collective invites you to two events. Thursday, Heschel King forum and Friday 12 noon an action to honor Ruth Bader Ginsburg with a walk around the Federal Courthouse in Downtown LA where Rabbi Susan will speak. The gathering will begin in Grand Park.

The Jewish Journal did a piece on our antiracism trainings. nefeshla.org/2020/09/30/nefesh-community-explores-how-to-become-an-anti-racist

More information on everything below.
We will begin our monthly Sunday Boost on November 1st. More info to come.

To our hearts opening to JOY, not from denial but straight through the middle of all that we are living through!

Chag Sukkot Sameach
Happy Sukkot,
Rabbi Susan
