Other Important Stuff

Aurora Research Institute Research Project

Aurora Research Institute has just launched a new research project to investigate levels of arsenic and other mining related metals in garden produce and soils in the Yellowknife area.  I have attached some material to give you some background on the project, including instructions on how to sample gardens if there are gardeners in your collective that would like to participate in the study.

I checked and even if you’ve harvested it a while ago, you can still provide a sample of whatever you have in the fridge or freezer. Mike Palmer will visit the garden sites some time in the next week to collect soil samples.

For information on the study see this link https://nwtresearch.com/about-us/news/ari-research-team-seeking-yellowknife-grown-produce

Old Town Building Appeal

The hearing for the appeal of a building project in the Old Town area was adjourned on 20 September, 2020. The hearing was rescheduled for 04 October, 2020.

Information about this appeal was provide in the August Newsletter.

If you would like to see a copy of the Notice of Appeal or have any questions or comments, please contact membership@ykgardencollective.org.

End of Season Plot Maintenance

With the 2020 Garden Season all but over gardeners should ensure that their plots are cleared and properly weeded before the snow falls and the ground freezes.

Foliage left on plots encourages voles and cut worms in subsequent seasons.
