Sacrifice.
Everyone in Victoria (Australia) should be proud of the sacrifices they've made during the recent lock down.
As restrictions begin to ease I want to highlight the opportunity for you to reflect on this time.
Why?
Because so much good can come from it.
By acknowledging your sacrifices, struggles, challenges and coping strategies, you can say:
"I got through this".
And if you can get through this? You can probably get through anything!
While the media like to play the blame game, and highlight people in crisis and peak frustration. The vast majority of you have been making sacrifices day after day, and now soon you will enjoy the rewards of this sacrifice. You understand the big picture.
While not over yet, I think now there is an opportunity to recognise what works for you. What coping mechanisms, what strengths, who you relied on, how you help others. What you may have taken for granted, and what you are really grateful for.
Where does your inner strength come from? What gets you through? Talking to friends, looking to the future? Nurturing yourself? Being creative? Exercise?
How did avoidance, like alcohol, binge eating, and voicing your frustration help?... (And I know what your thinking ).... But at what cost?
What insights will you 'file away' to use for future challenges you might face?
How have you changed and perhaps become more...
- Tolerant?
- Grateful?
- Respectful?
- Discerning?
- Creative?
- Appreciative of others?
- Supportive / Connected?
- Stable during times of uncertainty?
- Insightful in managing fear and stress?
- Aware of your emotions?
- Responsive and mature?
- In touch with other's needs?
- Understanding of each other?
Whatever it is for you, ground your insights and understanding within you. You are resilient. You are effective at managing difficult situations.
For parents - this experience is perhaps a once in a lifetime opportunity for children to learn and grow from.
I wonder what lessons there are around...
- Entitlement
- Working together
- Health
- Managing Uncertainty
- Gratitude / Family
- Business & Economy / Ethics
- 'Zoom' Etiquette :-)
- What else?
