Meet the people and organisations of the second-round of Culture of Solidarity Fund

We welcome the new grantees in the second round of our Culture of Solidarity Fund. They grow immediate crisis responses into more future-oriented solutions and extend from local levels to building cross-national alliances and pan-European initiatives.

The projects range from Europe-wide campaigns on the topic of European solidarity to grants that support groups who are most severely affected by legislative or financial adversities during the pandemic, and from proposals on greening the future of our continent to projects revealing untold histories of Europeans. Meet them here.

Regional Call for applications for the Culture of Solidarity Fund from Piedmonte and Aosta valley

We launched the regional call for applications of the Culture of Solidarity Fund with Fondazione CRT  inviting organisations from the Piedmonte and Aosta Valley regions to submit project ideas and proposals that connect local work with a real pan-European dimension. This special round of the Fund seeks to support imaginative cultural initiatives that reinforce pan-European solidarity and the idea of Europe as a shared public space from a regional and cross-border perspective. Read about the third round here.

Forces of Art

We are excited to introduce you to Forces of Art: A joint Hivos, European Cultural Foundation and Prince Claus Fund project.

Forces of Art brings forward new understandings and appreciations of the ways arts and culture shape societies across the world. Forces of Art is a major global research project that has been compiled in a book titled Perspectives from a Changing World that is set to be released in November. The book is a unique, multi-layered, polyvocal analysis of the importance of cultural practice in bringing together communities and creating spaces for the exploration of new ideas. Open letter: European Democracy Action Plan

The open letter on the European Democracy Action Plan and freedom of artistic expression is submitted in response to the public consultation launched by the European Commission on the European Democracy Action Plan (EDAP). We - signatories - call on the EU to take positive action to monitor and promote freedom of expression in all its forms and submit the following recommendations:

  1. Explicitly recognize freedom of expression in all its forms.

  2. Develop appropriate instruments at EU level whereby artistic freedom can be monitored and assessed as one of the legitimate indicators of democratic and cultural health.

  3. Foresee a facility through which artists can report violations of their fundamental rights and access support for their legal assistance and relocation.

  4. Establish an EU mechanism on democracy, the rule of law, and fundamental rights, including artistic freedom.

Community Conversation: The Black Archives and VIBE on archiving and diversifying narratives

The Black Archives is a Dutch unique historical archive for inspiring conversations, activities and literature from Black and other perspectives that are often overlooked elsewhere. Voices of Iberia in the Black Europe [VIBE] is a project by Educar and La Rampa magazine inviting Afro-Iberian artists to enter in dialogue with the current Black Lives Matter movement.

Both Black Archives and VIBE present their plans, and afterwards, we’ll have a conversation on how digging up and recounting stories from the past can help us transform our futures.
