Summer Changes

Had our summer gone as planned, we would have been on our way from the US to Brazil this week after a couple months in the US for family and friend time, hauling our kiddos around to visit all of you wonderful people that we miss so much!

But, God...wasn't done growing our family yet, and with the Covid related travel restrictions, nobody was goin' nowhere!

BTW, we just found out today, 100%, it's a BOY!!!  If you are keeping track, that's FIVE of them.  :-)

Now, it's looking like we'll only be able to make it back to the US and Brazil in 2022.  So coming to terms with that has been a little frustrating at times, and some days it does leave us a little lonesome.  At this point, we are simply praying for the borders to open up by December so that Silvia's mom can come to help when the new baby is born.  But we also have other family waiting to come visit, so we are budding with anticipation right now!

Thanks you for praying and partnering with us!  We know that there is a price to be paid to see the nations come to faith in Jesus.  Time, money, relationships, and comfort are all put on the table.  You are all a part of that.  Don't loose hope, rather praise God, for the field is ripe for harvest!

We are thankful for:

  • 10 years of marriage in August!
  • God's faithful provision, meeting our needs and showing us with grace to live day by day.
  • BOYS!  And a healthy Mommy and baby!
  • Community that encourages us to walk in and live out God's purposes in our family and living in Japan.
  • A lady, Noriko, who came to faith in Jesus after visiting our church service a couple weeks go.

We are praying for:

  • An increase in financial giving from supporters to cover increasing costs of a growing family.
  • The borders to open up for Silvia's mother to be able to come and stay when the baby is born.
  • Wisdom in living a GENEROUS life that points to Jesus as the fountain of our joy!
How can we pray for you?  Would you send us a note to let us know how you are doing?  How have you been affected by the Covid-19 outbreak?

If you have more time...

PAZ Church in Japan uses two ministries in particular to aid our efforts in church planting.  One is the Choose Life, the other is PAZ Coffee Shop.

Choose Life is being led by a new PAZ International missionary, Seth Quant.  His passion for serving the down-and-outs to see the name of Jesus be glorified is immense.  Check Seth out and consider helping him on his journey from tent-making to full time missions.

John has been leading the PAZ Coffee Shop project since it's inception in 2018.  Things were going well, but Covid related lifestyle restrictions really put a hamper on the growth.  However, we're slowly coming out of the hole!

Both of these ministries have testimonies of helping people on their path to Jesus!

Email me back and we can set up a time to talk in more details!
Summer Highlights

Making the best of some tough times, once the worst of the Covid outbreak in Japan subsided, we took advantage of our summer.  We still struggle some days in learning how to adapt our large family to the small space in which we have to live in the city.  So we are usually found out in nature somewhere, camping, hiking, exploring and more.

Once the rainy season stopped at the end of July, the first thing on our list was our annual beach camping trip.  We always invite friends.  During that trip we were able to sneak out early on our anniversary morning while our friends fed the kids breakfast.  We enjoyed a sunrise on a cliff overlooking the Pacific while we ate Sausage-egg McMuffins for breakfast.  Micky D's is the only restaurant open at 5:30 AM.  :-)  Nothing says 10 years like Micky D's on a park bench!

We had another over-night trip with our #wildandfreetokyo friends.  Silvia and the boys join them frequently for outings and other homeschooling activities.  We don't really take a summer break for school, so we just keep going as energy and schedules allow. Silvia really does a great job as a pregnant mother of 4 boys to keep them all going!

Antony and Samu love being outdoors in nature every day, and Samu especially enjoys hunting for creatures.

Knowing what to do with our little 4 year old Asher was tough, but we decided to go ahead and put him in preschool since the end of August.  He's loving that he is in the same class as his best friend, Izzy.

In September, we had Asher's and Antony's double birthday weekend.  Back to back parties kept us all going like crazy.  That puts the line-up at ages 8, 5, 4, and 1.

Thank you for keeping up with our family!  One of the hardest things about raising kids abroad is realizing that their childhood experiences will be completely different than what ours were, creating situations that are completely outside of our comfort zone as parents, for which we have no basis or personal experience to support our decisions.  No matter how much I enjoyed my small, midwestern farm-town upbringing, my kids won't have that as part of their formation, nor will the Amazon River and jungle play a part.  So their formation will look different, and that's just it, it's different.  You can pray for the mom and dad to take this truth to heart.

How about your experience, do you have any thing similar you can share with us?
