October 2, 2020

Good morning sunshine,

And boy are we hyped it's finally Friday. It's been a wild week kicking off October, and it's nice to lighten things to wrap it all up on a positive note.

In today's newsletter, learn how to help David Street Station win $15,000 for more community projects, learn about a UW Professor's discovery, and check out a cool newspaper project going on in Wyoming. Kelly's highlight today is on Wyoming alt-country artist Jalan Crossland. We also have the good ole Food Truck Round-Up prepped for ya!

The weather today will be around 74°F with plenty of sun and a gentle 20-30 mph breeze.

Meet the Musician:
Jalan Crossland

Hey guys, Kelly here. I just heard some great news!

Oktoberfest is tomorrow! If you scroll down, you'll see it in the calendar. But that's not the great news as I already knew that was happening. The GREAT news is that a local Wyoming musician will be performing there and you might know him. His name is Jalan Crossland.

So who is Jalan and what's his story? Keep on reading to find out more (along with when and where you can see him on Saturday).

Here's a quick summary of him

Born and raised in Ten Sleep, Wyoming, Jalan first became interested in music after hearing his uncle play the banjo. After living in Pittsburgh for a few years, Jalan decided to move back to Wyoming.

He did some freelance guitar gigs on the side of his day job (first as a sheepherder and then at a factory job in Casper). Eventually, all his hard work paid off and he was able to do music full-time. The rest, as they say, is history.
Click on the image above to watch Jalan perform "Moonshiner" at The Lincoln Theatre in Cheyenne.

Check out his music ASAP

His music can be described as Americana, Bluegrass, and Alternative Country. Not only does he play instruments, but he also sings and writes his own music.

You can find his music on Spotify here or on Apple Music here.

Premier acoustics along with excellent showmanship make this a show worth seeing

You have an opportunity very soon! In fact, it's tomorrow! He will be putting on an awesome show at Central Wyoming Hospice & Transition's Oktoberfest. The event goes from 2:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m. so make sure you get your tickets now.

You can purchase those tickets here.

Dirndls and Lederhosen not required (but encouraged if you have some!).
