1st Edition of Morserino-32 has been sold out
After 23 months and 2,700 kits this edition has come to an end; the loudspeaker used in the kit is not available anymore, and the newer Heltec modules use a slightly different pin-out. This will require the search for a new speaker, and some re-design of the PCB. The Heltec change also needs to be reflected in the firmware (I will try to keep future firmware versions compatible with 1st edition M32s, by determining at start-up which type of hardware it is running on).
All these things need some time. The Morserinos sold much faster than I had ever anticipated - while the first 19 months saw a steady demand of about 110 kits per month, this changed to over 150 kits during the last 4 months. So I was quite busy assembling and shipping kits, and could not find the time for the preparation of the second edition of the kit. This will happen now, over the next few months.
As soon as the next edition is ready, I will announce it here, and you will be able to place orders again.
Thank you all for this exciting experience - the Morserino project clearly shows that Morse Code is not dead, and there is an enormous interest in it. When people keep asking me „Why Morse? That isn’t used commercially anymore, it it?“ I always reply: „It’s the same with sailboats: they’re not used commercially anymore, but is is a lot of fun to sail a boat, and therefore millions of people do it. I requires skills, and therefore takes some time to learn how to sail a boat, but this does not take away the fun, in the contrary: becoming a good sailer is an achievement you can be proud of. And the exact same is true with using Morse code.

Die 1. Auflage des Morserino-32 ist ausverkauft
Nach 23 Monaten und 2.700 Bausätzen ist diese Auflage am Ende angekommen. Der im Bausatz verwendete Lautsprecher ist nicht mehr verfügbar, und die neueren Heltec-Module verwenden eine etwas andere Pinbelegung. Dies erfordert die Suche nach einem neuen Lautsprecher und eine Neugestaltung der Leiterplatte. Die Heltec-Änderung muss sich auch in der Firmware widerspiegeln (ich werde versuchen, zukünftige Firmware-Versionen mit M32s der 1. Edition kompatibel zu halten, indem beim Start festgestellt wird, auf welcher Art von Hardware sie ausgeführt wird).
All diese Dinge brauchen etwas Zeit. Die Morserinos verkauften sich viel schneller als ich jemals erwartet hatte - während in den ersten 19 Monaten eine konstante Nachfrage von etwa 110 Bausätzen pro Monat bestand, änderte sich diese in den letzten 4 Monaten auf über 150 Bausätze. Also war ich ziemlich beschäftigt damit, Bausätze zusammen zu stellen und zu versenden, und konnte keine Zeit für die Vorbereitung der zweiten Auflage des Bausatzes finden. Dies wird jetzt in den nächsten Monaten geschehen.
Sobald die nächste Auflage fertig ist, werde ich das hier bekannt geben und es können wieder Bestellungen aufgegeben werden.
Vielen Dank für diese aufregende Erfahrung - das Morserino-Projekt zeigt deutlich, dass Morsecode nicht tot ist und dass ein enormes Interesse daran besteht. Wenn die Leute mich immer wieder fragen: „Warum Morse? Das wird nicht mehr kommerziell verwendet, oder?“ antworte ich immer: „Es ist dasselbe wie mit Segelbooten: Sie werden nicht mehr kommerziell verwendet, aber es macht viel Spaß, ein Boot zu segeln, und deshalb tun es Millionen von Menschen. Man braucht dazu Skills und es dauert daher einige Zeit, das Segeln eines Bootes zu erlernen, aber das mindert nicht den Spaß, ganz im Gegenteil: Ein guter Segler zu werden, ist eine Leistung, auf die man stolz sein kann. Und genau das Gleiche gilt für das Morsen.
