October is Black History Month, an important annual celebration of the achievements of people of African and Caribbean heritage in the UK. In light of the events of this year, the need to celebrate and recognise the importance of Black History Month is more crucial than ever. The global Black Lives Matter movement has refocused attention on the everyday realities faced by Black people in the UK. To learn more about this, and keep up with news and events, click here.
Before we get started, we want to remind you that we our holding our Annual General Meeting tomorrow (Thursday 15th October) at 4pm-6pm, where we will be presenting our Annual Report and Accounts for approval followed by a panel discussion on our Commission for a Gender-Equal Economy and its next steps for the future! Briefings on Covid-19
Find everything the Women's Budget Group has done on Covid-19 here. This includes our reports on the impact that Covid-19 has on Social Security and Social Care, as well as joint letters, policy responses, and more.
Part of our Public Affairs work is to submit evidence on gender-sensitive policy to various Government, opposition, parliamentary or departmental consultations (also called inquiries.) To better equip our members to have a say and draw on your expertise, we will send a regular round up of consultations currently taking evidence, either that we are submitting to or, that might be of interest to you. Where it is indicated that WBG is submitting to a consultation, please feel free to get in touch if you would like to discuss/contribute.
