dlr Libraries Bag a Book

In line with the Government's decision for Dublin City and County to move to Level 3 of the Plan for Living with COVID-19 for three weeks, all dlr Libraries branches are closed to the public. We have reinstated our Bag a Book: Contact and Collect service. Our national online catalogue is still available, so books can be reserved online, via phone, email or the dlr Libraries app for collection at your chosen dlr library branch*. We'll contact you once your requested item has arrived to arrange collection.

In order to manage queues safely and efficiently and in line with physical distancing requirements, we ask that one member from each household come to the library at the arranged time.
You cannot come into the library to browse for books during this time.
Returns will be accepted at designated drop-off points in each participating library. And remember, there are no library fines.

*Please see separate news item for arrangements for Dalkey Library.

Lego competition winners 2020

On Friday 18 September we awarded our Lego prizewinners 2020 their prizes, with the help of An Cathaoirleach Councillor Una Power and Elaine Bowden from Bricks4 Kidz, South County Dublin.

A huge congratulations to our winners but also to all 23 children that entered the competition and livened up the Children's Library in dlr LexIcon from Wed 16 to Fri 18 September. While we didn't have as many entries to our competition as in previous years, we were delighted to see the 23 builds arriving! The standard, flair, imagination and skill were all of a very high standard and as usual it was a difficult judging process for Elaine Bowden from Bricks4Kidz.ie

All entrants put a huge amount of time and effort into their builds and they are all winners for building and entering and we do hope they will be encouraged to keep building and to keep an eye out for dlr Libraries Lego competition 2021.

Plays in the Park

During the months of October and November 2020, dlr LexIcon has planned a series entitled Plays in the Park, supported by Creative Ireland Programme funding. The plays will be performed in Moran Park for the most part, beside the library. We will be collaborating with artistes who have worked with us before so we know that audiences will be entertained and stimulated. It is an important step towards providing a measure of confidence for community audiences and opportunities for artistes to perform for live audiences again. Some of the performances will also be live-streamed. Click read more to find out all about this exciting series!

Current public health guidelines will be adhered to during each performance.

Temporary closure of Dalkey Library

Dalkey Library will be closing for a short period (Thursday 1 - Monday 12 October inclusive) in order to progress some works to upgrade the library facilities at the branch.
Starting from October 1st, this means that library staff will not be on site. As such, the Contact & Collect service as well as collection of requests will be suspended for Dalkey Library during this period. Neither will we be able to accept stock returns to Dalkey during this period. However, all items on loan have been renewed until 30 October.

Dalkey patrons can still request to collect items from any other dlr Libraries branch and Dalkey staff will remain contactable by phone (01-2855277) and email ( dalkeylib@dlrcoco.ie ) as usual. Our online services are also available at libraries.dlrcoco.ie

We regret any inconvenience that this will cause, but we are confident that these works will provide a better library experience and community space at the heart of Dalkey village.
