Beste lid van de NKWP/ Dear member of the NKWP:
 
Het nieuwe academische jaar is alweer een maand geleden begonnen; de studenten hebben hun introductiedagen gehouden op een uiterst ongebruikelijke wijze, en sinds enige dagen heeft de herfst zich ingezet. De regering heeft ons eerder in de week opnieuw gevraagd om vooral thuis te werken en de studenten, academici en praktijk-politicologen hebben een academisch jaar als geen ander.
 
Politicologenetmaal 2020
Deze week is het Politicologen Etmaal 2020 van start gegaan. Oorspronkelijk was het Etmaal gepland in juni 2020 aan de Radboud Universiteit Nijmegen, maar in verband met de Corona pandemie werd in het voorjaar al besloten om deze te verzetten naar zaterdag 3 oktober. Echter, in de zomer werd duidelijk dat het Politicologen Etmaal 2020 toch niet fysiek kon plaatsvinden en werd workshop leiders aangeboden om de workshops online te laten plaatsvinden. In totaal hebben zeven workshops besloten om van die optie gebruik te maken. De informatie hierover is op de website van het Politicologenetmaal terug te vinden: https://politicologenetmaal.eu. Op de website is verder ook een woord van welkom te vinden alsmede de aankondiging van de winnaars van de Daniel Heinsiusprijs (beste Masterscriptie) en de Els Witteprijs (beste proefschrift). Na afloop van deze versie van het Etmaal zullen het NKWP bestuur in overleg met de Vlaamse collega’s en de organisatoren evalueren hoe dit Etmaal is verlopen en wat de plannen zullen zijn voor het Etmaal van 2021, dat wederom door de Radboud Universiteit zal worden gehouden. Bedankt alvast voor al het harde werk van de collega’s in Nederland en Vlaanderen maar vooral de collega’s aan de Radboud (Maurits Meijers en Andrej Zaslove) die zich hard hebben ingezet voor dit Etmaal.
 
Voorbereiding enquête leden
Zoals in eerder nieuwsbrieven is aangegeven willen we een korte enquête naar de leden versturen. In deze enquête willen we vragen stellen over wat leden van de NKWP verwachten, of wij onze doelstellingen activiteiten goed doen en wat de NKWP zou kunnen verbeteren. Ook willen wij inventariseren welke andere coördinatie rol de NKWP zou kunnen vervullen (bijvoorbeeld, samenwerking politicologie onderwijsprogramma’s in Nederland) en voor welke uitdagingen politicologen zich geplaatst zien (zoals werkdruk, loopbaanvooruitzichten, verengelsing curriculum, onderzoek-onderwijs balans, internationalisering) om te bepalen waar de NKWP wellicht bij kan helpen om de situatie te verbeteren. Wij plannen om de enquête in de tweede helft van deze maand te versturen.

Dear NKWP member:
 
The new academic year has already started a month ago; the students have held their introductory days which took place much different from usual and Autumn has begun. Earlier this week, the government asked us again to work from home. Students, academics and political scientists are having an academic year like no other.
 
Politicologenetmaal 2020
This week the Politicologenetmaal 2020 has started. Originally, the 24-hour event was planned to take place over two days in June 2020 at the Radboud University Nijmegen, but due to the Corona pandemic, it was decided earlier this year to move it to Saturday 3 October. However, in the summer it became clear that the Etmaal 2020 could not take place physically and workshop organizers were offered to have their workshops take place online. In total, seven workshops have decided to make use of this option. The information about this can be found on the website of the Politicologenetmaal: https://politicologenetmaal.eu. On the website you will also find a word of welcome as well as the announcement of the winners of the Daniel Heinsius Prize (best Master thesis) and the Els Witteprijs (best PhD dissertation). After this version of the Etmaal, the NKWP board, in consultation with the Flemish colleagues and the organizers, will evaluate how this online Etmaal went and what the plans will be for the Etmaal in 2021, which will again be hosted by our colleagues at Radboud University. Let me take this opportunity here to thank all our colleagues in the Netherlands and Flanders, but especially the colleagues at Radboud (Maurits Meijers and Andrej Zaslove) for their work to make the 2020 Politicologenetmaal such a success.
 
Survey to the members
As stated in previous newsletters, we would like to send a short survey to members. In this survey we want to poll what members of the NKWP expect, whether we are doing our activities well, and what the NKWP could improve. We also want to make an inventory of which other coordination role the NKWP might fulfill (for example, cooperation in political science educational programs in the Netherlands) and which challenges political scientists face (such as work pressure, career prospects, Anglicisation of curriculum, the balance between teaching and research, internationalization) in order to determine where the NKWP may be able to help improve the situation. We plan to send the survey out later this month.
