building together

Groundbreaking for two new Habitat Homes for Veterans in Clovis on December 10, 2020.
Look for opportunities to get involved in early 2021!

Having a safe, decent place to call home has taken on a new meaning in 2020. With shelter in place orders to stay at home mandates, spending time in our homes has become not only a privilege, but a necessity.

For many in our community, however, the reality is their place to call home is not always safe or decent. This holiday season, we thank YOU for helping Habitat Greater Fresno Area continue our mission through the pandemic. Because of your support, we are able to keep building homes, communities and hope for so many in our area.

We are blessed at this time because Habitat Greater Fresno Area's programs and services are still deemed essential by local and state officials and we can continue to serve our communities. For those who are interested and comfortable, please see ways to get involved in the new year below!

Stay healthy. Stay safe.

We send our love and best wishes for a Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays and a very Happy New Year!

introducing Verna...
AmeriCorps Neighborhood Revitalization Crew Leader
"Hi, I'm Verna! I graduated from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas with a degree in International Business, and I have a few years of experience in administrative, retail, and customer service. My true passion lies in social justice work, which I chose to pursue a couple of years ago by moving to Downtown Fresno. Through the Pink House program, I interned for the Lowell Community Development Corporation and learned more about the affordable housing crisis in this city.

I chose to serve as an AmeriCorps member, because as an immigrant from the Philippines, I've seen first-hand how socioeconomic inequality and housing poverty affect families and marginalized communities. My family and I have come a long way since then and I feel a moral obligation to give back. I couldn't think of a better place to serve this year to learn more and be a part of incredible work that changes the lives of many and has values that align with mine.

My other interests include outdoor recreation like camping, hiking, climbing . . . all of it! I also love to travel, listen to live music, and practice photography. During the pandemic, you'll find me indoors cooking or reading. I look forward to working alongside with you amazing people who are also committed to making a difference in the Fresno and Madera communities!"

introducing Alexandria...
AmeriCorps VISTA ReStore Development and Volunteer Engagement
"Hi, I am Alexandria! I am currently serving as a ReStore Development and Engagement AmeriCorps VISTA member. I obtained my Bachelors degree in Political Science from California State University, Fresno. Post undergraduate, I held a position as a Program Associate and Chapter Advisor for an International Non-Profit in the Ghanaian Division. Working internationally gave me great experience on volunteer engagement, sustainable resource development, and marketing strategy. I also held a position as a Senior Intern with the Fresno City Council Office, District 1. During my time, I conducted policy research, policy analysis, and assisted with community events and engagement. This helped enrich me with a greater understanding of my community and the great organizations that help uplift my community.

I am proud to say I have spent several years of my young life, volunteering for a variety of community organizations across the globe. I plan to continue to share my passion for service for many years to come. I am excited to be a part of a team that helps give back so much to a community that has given so much to me. I am looking forward to making an impact in my role. My goals are to build upon the positive volunteer engagement and development at the Habitat for Humanity ReStores in the Greater Fresno Area!"
