Hi friend,

We would like to invite you to the Nancy and Bob Maynard Forum, on Tuesday, October 6, 5pm PT / 8pm ET. The event is hosted by co-founder of the Maynard Institute for Journalism Education, Frank O. Sotomayor and sponsored by the University of Arizona School of Journalism. Three prominent journalists will discuss three issues topping today's headlines:  the election, the pandemic and the racial reckoning instigated by the killing of George Floyd.

The panelists:
Gilbert Bailon, editor of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. He received the 2014 Bradlee Editor of the Year award for leading his newspaper's coverage of the fatal police shooting of Michael Brown in Ferguson, Mo. and its aftermath. Bailon will serve as  panel moderator.

Mary C. Curtis is a columnist for Congressional Quarterly Roll Call. She is host of the new podcast, "Equal Time With Mary Curtis," which tackles policies and politics through the lens of social justice.

Kevin Merida is editor-in-chief of ESPN's “The Undefeated," which explores the intersections of race, sports and culture. In his previous position, Merida was managing editor of The Washington Post.

Register here.

The forum will help the school promote its new Nancy and Bob Maynard Diversity in Journalism Scholarship. Sotomayor will make a short forum presentation to honor the late Maynard couple and their trailblazing achievements. Nancy and Bob were champions for diversity in the newsroom and in news coverage. They were among the first people in the nation to speak out about diversity in any field. The Arizona School of Journalism had close ties to the Maynard Institute by hosting the Editing Program for 20 years.

Help them award and endow this scholarship by donating here.

We hope to see you there!

Sincerely,
Evelyn Hsu and Martin G. Reynolds
