Parliament returned this month and I've been leading for Labour on the controversial Internal Market Bill, as well as kicking off this year's virtual Big Conversation events. Many thanks to everyone who responded to my last newsletter to help with leaflets.
Along with shadow BEIS Ministers, I've been leading Labour's opposition to Boris Johnson's International law-breaking Internal Markets Bill which reneges on his Withdrawal Agreement with the EU. See more here.
Protecting trade and jobs
As a member of the Shadow International Trade team I challenged Ministers on their failure to secure the 'rollover' trade deals we need to protect exports to non-EU countries. More here.
Fair pay for health & care staff
On the first day back from recess, I highlighted the huge public support for all those who work in the health and care sector and pressed Matt Hancock to increase their pay. More here.
Test and trace
I’ve written to Matt Hancock about the difficulties facing constituents getting Covid-19 tests, highlighting the NHS staff and key workers prevented from working while they wait for a test or results.
Climate Assembly UK
I joined the online launch of the Climate Assembly report on achieving net zero emissions. We'll be talking about this and more at my Big Conversation meeting with Sheffield Climate Alliance.
Local jobs
After figures were released showing the number of claimants in the constituency has more than doubled since lockdown began, I wrote to Rishi Sunak pushing for action to protect jobs.
Protecting wildlife
After more than 150 constituents wrote to me about the declining number of hen harriers, I wrote to the Environment Secretary for action on wildlife crime associated with grouse shooting.
Tell me what you think
My thanks to all the volunteers who are delivering my Big Conversation survey to 40,000 homes. Please take a couple of minutes to complete it online.
Ponds Forge
I joined the city's other Labour MPs in writing to Ministers for funds to support Ponds Forge, after Sheffield was denied money for leisure facilities made available to other Councils. More here.
Challenging Johnson's Canada claims
I wrote an article for The Times on Boris Johnson's misleading claims on wanting a 'Canada-style' trade deal with the EU, which you can read here.
Women seeking asylum
I met with the Dewa Project earlier this month to discuss the challenges faced by women seeking asylum, especially during the pandemic.
