Watch for the launch of the ASA Challenge!

There is no doubt that for many, this summer’s archery season left a gap due to the impact of COVID-19 restrictions and closures. Yet, we are so pleased to see that many archers have remained in the sport and even many new archers have come forward to take lessons across Canada.

This summer should have seen the development of new ASA 3D tournaments, following the announcement of Archery Canada taking the responsibility to be the representative of ASA for Canada. Plans in motion to see ASA bloom in Canada, with the goal of seeing at least 2-3 ASA tournaments held in each province in 2021.

We want to have archers thinking about ASA tournaments for next year and therefore will be launching the online Canadian ASA Challenge that you can shoot from your home or your club. Inspired by the World Archery Beat the Outbreak, we have teamed up with the American Shooting Associating (ASA) for this online 8-week challenge. Archers will have the opportunity to compete remotely against each other with new targets weekly that are themed around ASA scoring rules. Keep an eye on our website for a full breakdown of the rules and information on how to participate! A prize will be awarded each week.

The 2020-2021 Recurve Archers and Para Carding Policy and Process are now available

The 2020-2021 Recurve Archers Carding Policy and Process is now available. For 2021, Sport Canada has allocated the equivalent of five (5) Senior Cards to Archery Canada (AC) for the Olympic program able-bodied athletes for AC’s carding cycle. The full policy and process can be found at the following: https://archerycanada.ca/the-2020-2021-recurve-archers-carding-policy-and-process-is-now-available/

Under the guidance of the AAP policy, AC has the ability to apply the total carding funding envelope in the context of its high performance strategic objectives and may allocate varying numbers of Development (D) or Senior (SR) Cards. AC does not have to allocate 3 SR Cards for a given year. As such, the distribution of SR and D Cards may vary depending on the strategic direction of the program or where the carding cycle lies in a Paralympic quadrennial. Athlete nominations to Sport Canada for carding will be made each year. The Program Head Coach (HC), in collaboration with the High-Performance Advisor (HPA), is responsible for nominating Paralympic program athletes for Sport Canada’s AAP.

Archery Day in Canada and BOWdometer

Archery Canada was pleased to announce BOWdometer as the sponsor for this year’s Archery Day in Canada campaign. BOWdometer is a Canadian company (Toxon Technologies Inc) that has developed an archery practice companion that helps archers build confidence as they shoot. BOWdometer straps onto the archers bow and tracks their shots providing you a consistency number for every shot, called “Xi”. It is a data collector with corresponding mobile apps which has been trialed by members of the national team showing some interesting potential.

Thank you to all those that participated in this year’s Archery Day celebrations! We had inspiring archers all over the country share their stories with us! We will be announcing the winner of our submission contest in the coming days. We would also like to thank our sponsor BOWdometer for providing us with 3 units that we will be giving away in future contests! We look forward to future collaborations with BOWdometer in helping Canadain Archers start their archery journey!

Archery Canada is extremely excited to be working with BOWdometer to improve the experience of archers across Canada this fall and are looking forward to running fun activities and contests in conjunction with BOWdometer.

Did you register in 2020?

As a registered member of your Province or Territorial Archery Association you are also a registrant of Archery Canada. Being a member and a registered participant of Archery Canada means you are actively supporting the promotion and development of the sport from grass roots to the pursuit of international excellence.

This year was a tough year for clubs across Canada and the organisers of the Canadian Outdoor Archery Championships that were to be held in PEI this summer wanted to help encourage archers to stay involved and register. That is why all registered participants who had registered by September 19th were entered into the PEI Lobster Draw. The luck winner was selected and will be contacted this week. More information to be shared on social media soon!
