A note from Manisha...

Dear <<First Name>>,
Imagine walking in a beautiful garden sanctuary with meandering flower-lined paths, towering mature trees and ponds filled with exquisite lotuses. The serene outer surroundings make you feel peaceful inside.

Now imagine leaving this tranquil sanctuary and driving back into the city. As you get closer, the traffic and noise start to increase and with that, your peace of mind starts to fade away. 
 
Where does peace come from? Is it in the outer surroundings or is it in your own mind? Based on what I’ve just described, it seems as though the outer surroundings determine your peace. But this is not true. Peace is the very nature of the mind. Outer surroundings do influence the state of the mind, but they cannot, and do not create peace. 
 
Peace is already in the mind, but it is seldom experienced by us because of the presence of factors that agitate the mind. 
 
The peaceful garden sanctuary didn’t create peace but calmed down your mind which made you feel peaceful. The city traffic and noise agitated your mind and disturbed your peace. When the disturbing factors are removed, the peace that is already in the mind returns.
 
So, instead of bringing in peace from the outside, what we need to do is to focus on removing the factors that disturb the peace. 
 
In my latest blog post, How to nurture a peaceful mindI talk about 4 factors that agitate the mind. Interestingly, none of these disturbing factors come from the outer world but rather, originate in the mind itself. 
 
When we recognise what these are and strive to remove them, the peace that is already there in the mind shows up. Read How to nurture a peaceful mind to find out what these 4 factors are and how to reduce them so that we can begin to experience the peace that is inherent in the mind.
