Prayers for Forgiveness, Holiness, and Pureness
|
|
I whisper a pure prayer to open the gates of heaven to our Sacred Spirits. I ask our United Source to illuminate us with the holy elements of truth, forgiveness, love, mercy, and healing. Please bless our existence, thoughts, hearts, bodies, souls, and beings with the purity of healing and the loving grace of forgiveness.
May the powers of holistic healing enter our consciousness, and help us evolve toward the gifts of inner peace, love, goodwill, joy, and growth in our lives, our families, our communities, our world, and our Cosmos.
To the Divine glow of these special High Holy Days, please revitalize and elevate us all to a higher place of purity, compassion, understanding, and holiness. Please guide our collective awareness toward oneness, wholeness, alignment, openness, truthfulness, honesty and Heaven's higher frequencies.
May this year be filled with salvation, grace, and mercy.
May our souls be inspired with faith, beauty and
Divine eternal peace.
God bless us all with holiness, contemplation, and purification to light our spirits and shine love, life, joy, oneness.
The 5781 New Year calls us to come back home to the Sacred place of holiness and to the Holy Source within us all.
Lord, Please bless us with the gift of forgiveness.
אָבִינוּ מַלְכֵּנוּ כָּתְבֵנוּ בְּסֵפֶר חַיִּים טוֹבִים
Our Father, our King, inscribe us in the book of good life.
May it be so.
Amen.

Yom Kippur is the holiest day of the year for the people of Yisrael. Its central theme is atonement for our sins and deep repentance. Known as the "Day of Atonement," Yom Kippur is celebrated on the 10th of the Month of Tishrei, ten days after Rosh Hashanah, which marks the first day of the Hebrew New Year. Yom Kippur is called the Sabbath of Sabbaths, a day which calls upon each of us to examine our lives. It is believed that the fate of each person is sealed for the upcoming year on Yom Kippur.
Yom Kippur is a gateway to Heavens, opening to a very significant time in the yearly cycle and in Jewish spirituality. It marks a time of repentance and reconciliation with ourselves, others, and God by participating in a day-long fast and intensive prayer at synagogue services.
This High Holy Day is known for its religious rituals and prayers which access and integrate Sacred energies in our bodies, beings, spirits and souls for cleansing our sins and wrongdoings. These observances activate our will, facilitate forgiveness, and inspire us to connect with the Divine Source of Heaven that we all share.

The core of this High Holy Day is forgiveness and repentance. The purpose of community confession, regretting our past actions, and repenting for our sins is to be at peace with our own souls, in harmony with a higher Divine power, and at One with God.
We greet this High Holy Day by wearing white clothing to reflect qualities of purification, cleansing, and unity. On Yom Kippur, we rise above our physical needs and our bodies' pleasures in order to awaken. We fast for a day, refraining from eating and drinking, and instead focus on praying and returning to our pure spiritual essence.

Before sunset on Yom Kippur Eve, worshipers gather in synagogues all over the world. The Torah Ark--the Holy of all Holies--is opened. After the Torah scrolls are removed, we recite in Hebrew:
"In the tribunal of Heaven and the tribunal of earth, we hold it lawful to pray with transgressors."
The cantor then chants the Kol Nidre, Aramaic prayer which symbolizes the beginning of the Holy day. Its name is taken from the opening words, כל נדרי, which translates: "All vows."
All personal vows we are likely to make and all personal oaths and pledges we are likely to take between this Yom Kippur and next Yom Kippur, we publicly renounce. Let them all be relinquished and abandoned, null and void, neither firm nor established. Let our personal vows, pledges and oaths be considered neither vows nor pledges nor oaths.
The leader and the congregation then say together three times: "May all the people of Israel be forgiven, including all the strangers who live in their midst, for all the people are at fault." The Torah scrolls are then placed back into the Ark, and the Yom Kippur evening service begins.
Yom Kippur is well known for its uniqueness because it has five prayer services: Ma'ariv; Shacharit; Musaf; Mincha; and Ne'ilah, the closing prayer. The prayer services also include private and public confessions of sins (Vidui) and a unique prayer dedicated to the special Yom Kippur Avodah (service) of the Kohen Gadol (high priest) in the Holy Temple in Jerusalem.
While the Temple in Jerusalem was still standing, in Biblical times through 70 CE, the Kohen Gadol was mandated by the Torah to perform a complex set of special services and sacrifices for Yom Kippur to attain Divine atonement. The word "kippur" means "atone" in Hebrew. These services were considered the most important parts of Yom Kippur because through them the Kohen Gadol made atonement for all Jews and the world.
During the service, the Kohen Gadol entered the Holy of Holies in the center of the Temple Mount in the inner sanctuary within the Tabernacle. This was the only time of the year that anyone went inside. Doing so required special purification and preparation, including five immersions in a Mikvah (ritual bath), and four changes of clothing.
Yom Kippur includes the fundamentals of reckoning and
soul-searching, remorse, confessions, penitence, and asking forgiveness from one another. We strive to strengthen our willingness and desire to live more holy lives, purify ourselves, go beyond our bodies' suffering, and be closer to God. We do this by praying, fasting, giving charity, and doing goodwill acts which are all part of healing our souls and healing our world.
