What's Happening at Prince of Peace?

Thursdays 11:00 am - noon
Thursday Morning Bible Study

Led currently by Pastor Jim; meets weekly

Here is the Zoom link:
https://zoom.us/j/98232042083
Meeting ID: 982 3204 2083

We are reflecting with on the four chapters of Philippians, reading one chapter each week for four weeks. Paul rarely minced his words, and he doesn't when writing from prison to this early congregation. Yet, this is one of his most joyful letters. Today we are contemplating together chapter 3. You are welcome to join the study whether you attended any of the previous weeks or not!

Prince of Peace Delivers 388 LWR School Kits

We had an amazing response to the Lutheran World Relief (LWR) School Kits program! The 388 LWR school kits far surpassed our goal of 275 kits (last year’s total).

A big thank you to all who have purchased school supplies to fill backpacks, purchased notebooks, or donated to the designated fund. Special thanks to Jen, Brendan and Charlie Harrell for packing school kits. Brendan and Charlie worked hard for their Boy Scouts merit badges.

Many children who live in impoverished conditions or suffer from natural disasters and war-torn conditions will now be able to attend school as a result of our generosity in preparing our Lutheran World Relief school kits. In a recent e-mail with LWR, an administrator stated “we are delighted to read you have so many School Kits for us! We’re especially grateful because we are extremely low, so yours are extra appreciated!”

The 48 packed boxes of school kits will be delivered to the LWR Ingathering location in Waldo, OH on October 16-17, 2020.

Bob and Sue Brueggemeier
Coordinators of LWR School Kits Project

Confirmation Family Meetings

Thank you to those of you who attended one our first virtual parent/student meetings. It was great to see you all and we are looking forward to our Confirmation Program for the fall 2020. For those of you who have not attended yet and have a student in grades 6-8, please join us at our meeting on Sunday, September 27 at 11:00 am. The zoom meeting invitation is here.

Sign Up to Your Confirmation Community Group by October 1

For those who are ready, please sign up for your Confirmation Community Group. These groups will meet on the SAME DAY at the SAME TIME every week for the 6-week session this fall (week of October 11 - the week of November 15). We need everyone to sign up by October 1, so we can get communities assigned and communications sent out to leaders and students.

High School Bible & Breakfast

Our next High School Bible and Breakfast meeting will be Sunday, October 4 at 10:00 am. While the location is still TBD, we hope to do this again in person. This is socially-distanced fellowship and a time for Bible study and reflection on “Dwelling in HOPE.”

Please sign up below so we can communicate once the location has been finalized and we know how many to expect!

If you have any questions, please send me an email.

Sunday School Update
A Family Ministry

We hope that you have received your child’s Sunday School packet for their grade level. If you have not, please contact the office and we can add you to our mailing list. We wish for every child age 3 through 5th grade to have this at home faith foundation and building opportunity.

We have split the Sunday School year into three segments:

Fall curriculum: September 13 through November 22

Winter curriculum: November 29 to February 14
We plan to mail out a Sunday School packet to every child during the week of November 9.

Spring curriculum: February 22 to May 16
Perhaps we can meet in person? To be determined.

Sue Miller
Sunday School Director

Is Your Breeze Profile Up to Date?

Prince of Peace tracks your family members and address via Breeze. The church uses Breeze often and so it's important for everyone to have a complete profile, including photos!

We miss seeing you and would love to see your picture in Breeze. If you have an update or wish to begin to use the system, please contact the church office.

The Ahiga Family Have Moved to Kenya Full-Time to Open the Grain of Rice Academy

The Grain of Rice Project was founded by Amy Ahiga, her sister Ashley Swanson, and Amy's husband Edwin Ahiga. The Grain of Rice Project, now directed by Amy and Edwin Ahiga, helps people in the Kibera Slum, with hopes of soon expanding into Nanyuki, Kenya. They are currently building a school near Nanyuki, Kenya.

Amy, Edwin and Ellis would appreciate our prayers for their safe travel to Kenya, for the safe shipment of many resources that should arrive there in 2-3 months, and for the decisions that have to be made to finish and furnish the Grain of Rice Academy, hire teaching staff, and enroll students.

Prince of Peace has supported the Grain of Rice Project for many years.

Dementia vs. Alzheimer’s Disease:
What is the Difference?

Dementia is an umbrella term used to include a variety of conditions that cause a decrease in mental ability. Alzheimer’s is one condition that is under the umbrella of dementia and is one of the most common forms of dementia. And it is possible to have more than one type of dementia.

It is wise to know the warning signs. Early diagnosis can improve treatment and provides more time to plan for the future. Seek the advice of a healthcare professional if you have concerns.

One source of valuable information for understanding and receiving support is the Alzheimer's Association website

Be well. God loves you.

Bible Trivia

This week's trivia question:

Q: Today's trivia is a fill-in-the-blank:

In Philippians, Paul urges us to look to Jesus as a model of humility. Paul explains that Jesus, though he was in the form of God, did not regard equality with God as something to be exploited, but emptied himself, taking the form of __________.

Last week's trivia:

Q: What was Jonah doing when the captain of the ship found him?

A: Jonah was fast asleep down in the hold of the ship.
