"Let all that you do be done in love." - 1 Corinthians 16:14
Dear Annunciation Families,

Thank you to everyone who attended our Virtual Parent Information Nights on Monday and Wednesday.  Hopefully, you were able to learn more about your child's teacher and what they are learning about this school year.  Today we celebrated Mass together for the first time since March.  It was wonderful to be together as a community.  Thank you Father Deziel, our teaching staff and our maintenance staff for making today's Masses a success.

Kari Zobel,
Principal

*Thank you for your cooperation in the carpool lane.
Now that we are in a
routine and carpool is running smoothly, school will begin at 8am.

Please make sure your child is in his or her classroom by 8am.*

A few reminders for morning drop-off:

  • Please pull all the way up in the line (near the playground) to keep drop-off running smoothly.
  • Please have your child exit on the right side of your vehicle for safety.
  • Please do not get out of your car during drop-off.
few reminders for afternoon pick-up:
  • Please park in the lot or on the street, if you are meeting your child at pick-up.
  • Please meet your child at the bottom of the ramp on the east side of school, your child will be dismissed as a walker.
  • Please exit the parking lot via Garfield Ave as soon as you meet your child.
This is a good time to review your before and after school family safety plan and remain vigilant as always.  Children are always supervised during school hours on school grounds and we do have staff present outside on campus during morning arrival and afternoon dismissal. We also want to continue to be respectful of our neighbors and community businesses.

Session for parents: Stress and Anxiety in School-Aged Children
Even before COVID, anxiety had become the most commonly diagnosed issue in classrooms across this country. Given the stress of this time, of disrupted school and more pressure on families, we are seeing a rise in the stress and anxiety demonstrated by children. In this session, you will learn concrete strategies to help your children become more resilient to stress and to better endure normal anxious feelings. You will also find tips to differentiate “normal” stress and anxiety responses from more serious symptoms, how to intervene without interfering, and when to seek help.

SCHOOL ACTIVITES UPDATES
Christmas Program 2020

Dear Annunciation Families,
We are excited to be back! There are many adaptations and changes that have needed to take place to make our return to school possible. This year, our beloved Christmas program tradition will also experience some changes in how it will be performed and presented to Annunciation families.

Due to safety and health protocols we will not be gathering as a community this year for the Christmas program. Unfortunately, our tradition will not be live this holiday season but we will be spreading good cheer and Christmas joy in a virtual presentation of the program. More information to come. Please refer to the MDH guidelines for singing and performances as a reference for this decision.

We will order t-shirts again this year to represent the countries that we will be studying. Please look for a t-shirt Google order form. Your child’s homeroom teacher will send this order form out to you. The form will be shared with you on Monday, September 28 and responses are due by Friday, October 2.

Thank you for your understanding and support during this uncertain time. Although we will not be live this year, we look forward to performing our Christmas program next year on the stage and carrying on this great Annunciation tradition.
We have a long-standing tradition of celebrating Carnaval the day before Ash Wednesday. This year Carnaval is February 16th.

While we do not know what our Carnaval celebration will look like this year, we still plan for each grade to learn about another country during the year and showcase their learning through Carnaval in some way.

This summer a survey was sent out so students could have a voice in choosing countries. We also have staff input as we try to represent countries from around the world and countries that we have not represented recently. We always learn about our country through our social studies standards throughout K-8 education, but also are able to compare and contrast cultures, traditions, governments, and more as we look at our own country and learn about another country. Many of this year’s selections are because of family connections and heritage of some of our students and some were requested because of a desire to learn more about countries we hear about in the news or have populations within our own Minnesotan communities. We had almost 40 responses to this year’s survey!

Thank you Annunciation for sharing your voice and if your country of choice is not being represented this year, please share your request again next summer.
MAP Testing has begun and will continue thru October 2.
Please make sure your child gets plenty of rest and a good breakfast.

Middle School students need to make sure their Chromebooks are charged.
VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES
Greetings Families,

To all of you that have already pitched in and helped get the year off to a good start, THANK YOU!

To everyone who has already sent in an APO Volunteer Form indicating ways you might be willing to help, thank you!

To anyone who hasn't had a chance to fill out the form yet, please consider doing it this week.

Your time & talent help the school (of course), but volunteering is also a great way to meet other parents and get more involved in our great community, which is more difficult than usual this year.  Even though there is no formal volunteer requirement, we don't want anyone to miss out on the benefits!  (We also don't want to fill your email box with requests every week. If you let us know your possible interests, we'll only send you details about the events you selected.)

Thank you!
We Need You!
We are looking for more mentors to become First Friends to our new Annunciation families! Being a mentor family is super easy, very rewarding and it helps our community stay connected and strong. So what does it take to mentor?
  • You reach out to the new family you are given by APO through email or a phone call to welcome, check-in and answer any questions the new family has.

  • Check-in periodically throughout the year to answer questions, let them know about upcoming events or to just get to know each other better!
  • You can even do things like a Zoom happy hour or meet up outside while it's warm!
Please reach out to Kate or Heidi if you’re interested.

SCHOOL FUNDRAISERS
Box Tops for Education has been a supporter of Annunciation Catholic School for many years and we’re still going strong! Here’s how you can help us get more funding for our school.
  1. Get the app - It’s easy - download the app that allows you to scan your store receipt, find participating products and instantly add Box Tops to our school's earnings online.
  2. Turn in clips - If you still have traditional Box Tops clips at home, make sure to send them to school or to the collection drawer in the church basement. We will still earn cash for all clipped Box Tops until they expire.

The lost and found is filling up with lots of jackets, water bottles and Annunciation sweatshirts that have not been labeled.  Items that have a name on them, have a good chance of being returned to your child. Articles in the lost and found will be held for about 2 weeks before they are donated.
LEADING WITH SPIRIT AWARD
Send your kid's teacher a virtual high five!
Give a staff member a hug without touching them! Fill out a Leading with Spirit card online to show your appreciation for all they do. They will receive your recognition and be entered into a drawing.

CHURCH NEWS

SeptemberFest—Thank You!!!

We had a wonderful festival last weekend! Thank you to all who worked so hard to make it such a smashing success! Despite the virus distancing required, the committee was able to come up with a lot of creative ideas for events both on site, and virtual and our parishioners were very, very generous. We sold a record number of raffle tickets! Over $34,000! And the grand prize-winning couple Scott and Trisha Blake very generously gave back the $5,000 prize! Thank you! They are a new family to our parish and school this year! Thank you so much!

Thank you to all who gave so much in so short a time to dunk me in the tank! Over $10,500 was given in just a week’s time! That is AMAZING! Thank you to Ryan Manchon a fourth grader whose spot-on fast pitch sent me into the water on the very first pitch! We look forward to him pitching for the Twins some day! Thank you to all our teachers and school staff who went in the tank and to those who had the pleasure to dunk them!

Many people have lamented how this year, is not like the typical year when so many gather, and there’s tons of things to do at the festival. Nevertheless, it was a wonderful week and we can all feel good about our parish spirit and all that has been accomplished! Thank you to our chairs, Jamie and Amy Smith, and co-chairs, Matthew and Kelly Meyer, ever present Jimmy Dunn and all who helped in any way, big or small. Thank you! And thank you Lord for the great weather! We couldn’t have asked for better weather! We’re blessed as a faith community and moving forward together in the faith and love of Jesus! All in God’s goodness!

With Joy in Christ,
Fr. Deziel

Congratulations to the winners of
the SeptemberFest Raffle!
