The
UN COVID-19 Omnibus Resolution, “Comprehensive and Coordinated Response to the COVID-19 Pandemic,” passed the General Assembly in a plenary meeting on 11 September.

Women Deliver worked with partners to ensure that gender equality and girls and women’s health and rights were appropriately recognized in the resolution, and we are pleased that UN Member States affirmed and called for action on many gender dimensions of the COVID-19 pandemic — including women’s roles as leaders and decision-makers in the health workforce and communities, growing burdens of unpaid care, increased rates of gender-based violence, and access to health services to maintain sexual and reproductive health and reproductive rights.

September 18 –
Women of the Diaspora Summit: Hosted by Republic of Costa Rica, the United Nations Population Fund, and the African Renaissance and Diaspora Network, the summit was a series of international discussions on gender equality and race discrimination with women of the diaspora.
22 September –
Indigenous Midwives: An eminent panel of Indigenous midwives discussed examples of successful policy changes and existing barriers towards improving Indigenous maternity care. Hosted by Wilson Center’s Maternal Health Initiative, in partnership with UNFPA and the International Confederation of Midwives.

Building Back Better. How to Create a Virtuous Circle for the Inclusion of All LGBTI Persons: Hosted by UN LGBTI Core Group, high-level authorities and civil society will address the multiple and intersecting forms of discrimination suffered by lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans, and intersex (LGBTI) persons and what is being done to work towards inclusion.
