The Arts Education program employs approximately 40-50 artist instructors/year, offers 400+ high quality arts classes for all ages and skill levels in ceramics, visual arts, creative writing and music for approximately 2000 registered students.

Drawing and Painting Techniques for Children
with Lili Masbough
In-person class | October 7 - Nov 18 | 3:30-4:30pm
For students who would like to develop both drawing and painting techniques. Students will try and work with different mediums such as acrylic, pastel, pencil crayon and watercolor to draw and paint a variety of subjects including animals and landscapes. They will get a chance to explore new ideas and develop their creativity.

Modern Art for Kids
with Patricia Morris
In-person class | October 6 - November 17 | 3:30pm - 5pm
Emily Carr, Jack Bush, Benjamin Chee Chee, Lawren Harris, Jean-Paul Riopelle, Ted Harrison—these are a few of the artists we’ll look at. Children will look at many pieces of art and then make an artwork in the style of these artists. They’ll use a variety of styles such as brush painting, finger painting, collage, and drawing. . By the end of the course, your child will have several stunning artworks and some knowledge about Canadian artists!

Art Night for Youth
with Kimberly Blackstock
In-person class | October 8 | 6:30-8:30pm
Once a month a small group of youth will gather together with like-minded individuals who enjoy creating and developing their artistic skill. Each month participants will create a piece of art with guidance from professional artist Kimberly Blackstock as well as join in on a creative conversation where they’ll get to know each other and share opportunities with one another, like contests, exhibitions or community projects to participate in.

Drawing Intensive for Youth

This series is for teens who are interested in an intensive drawing program that combines their personal projects with design challenge strategies. We will work on a series of pieces, creating a small collection that shows who you are as an artist. Perfect for the more experienced young artist who is serious about developing their craft.

Handbuilding Studio Intensive for Teens

In-person class | October 25- November 29 | 12-3pm
Join Olga Andrienko in the studio for fun and engaging handmade pottery lessons prepared specifically for teens who love clay! Each day will focus on learning and practicing pottery techniques such as pinching, coiling, slab work, sculpting and decorating through texturing and stamping.

Introduction to Drawing Botanicals

Drawing botanicals is a centuries old practice. Before photography was invented, documenting plants with drawings was critical to their study. The artist’s goal was to show the exact shape, size and colour of the plants and flowers under observation, resulting in exquisitely detailed, delicate drawings.

Join us for our Physically Distanced Create Night with Christy! You’ll have lots of room to spread out with a canvas, paints, some snacks and a beverage! Don’t worry … this isn’t one of those paint-by-number affairs where you end up doing the same painting as everyone else. Christy will guide you with her technical expertise (and great sense of humour) to achieve your own personal masterpiece.

Art 4 Life
Part of Culture Days
Art 4 Life is a five-week exhibition that includes art, activities and events geared to the young and the young at heart. The goal is to cultivate artistic growth in our community by inspiring and engaging children, while raising opportunities for active participation and discussion, as well as cultural and environmental awareness and lessons on art appreciation. The benefits of an arts education affect every area of life and we want it to be a lifelong journey.

Out of the Frame
Nolan Drew, PoMoArts Ceramic Artist in Residence
Virtual Artist Talk October 1 | 7:15pm
Out of the Frame was inspired by the idea of motion; Nolan Drew hints at growth, regrowth, decomposition and denying the frame. The exhibition depicts a selection of Drew`s finished clay sculptures, married with his paintings, allowing the audience to see their origins in both two dimensions and three dimensions. Their relationship explores the connections between the world of painting and ceramics, connecting the sketch to the finished product.

Call for Applications - Kwi AM Choi Scholarship
Established in 2007, the Kwi Am Choi Exhibition Scholarship is an annual award of $2,000 that recognizes an emerging BC artist between the ages of 18 and 32, and is designed to fund the costs of mounting a solo exhibition of their work at the Port Moody Arts Centre. This initiative provides students currently enrolled in, or recent graduates of, Fine Arts programs at recognized post-secondary institutions in Canada with the opportunity to display their work in a publicly funded gallery, receive curatorial mentorship, and network with other artists and art professionals. Proposals will be evaluated by a jury of art professionals in a blind jurying process.
