DUT VICE-CHANCELLOR AND PRINCIPAL, PROF THANDWA MTHEMBU UNPACKS DUT’S DNA

Durban University of Technology’s (DUT’s) Vice-Chancellor and Principal Professor Thandwa Mthembu recently delivered a video message to unpack the concept of DUT’s DNA.

Prof Mthembu said the double-helix of the DUT’s DNA is held together by DUT’s shared values and principles.

He said at the heart of DUT’s DNA are two intertwined, each one paired, strands of: ‘people-centredness and engagement’ on one hand; and ‘innovation and entrepreneurship,’ on the other hand.

DUT HOSTS THE SECOND SESSION OF THE EVALUATION OF INTERNATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS ONLINE WORKSHOPS

The Directorate: International Education and Partnerships at the Durban University of Technology (DUT) held a second online workshop on Evaluation of International Qualifications on MS Teams last Friday, 18 September 2020.

The online workshop was facilitated by DUT’s Philiswa Mncube, who extended a warm welcome to all administrators from other universities as well as the DUT community for the second session on the Evaluation of International Qualifications.

DR PILLAY URGES WOMEN TO KEEP PUSHING BOUNDARIES IN ORDER TO SHAPE THE FUTURE OF SOUTH AFRICA

Envisioning entrepreneurial and adaptive graduates to changes in the world is what drives Dr Poppet Pillay, who is the Director of the Centre for Social Entrepreneurship (CSE), situated at the Durban University of Technology’s (DUT’s) ML Sultan Campus.

Dr Pillay was recently recognised by DUT as being ‘one of the powerful women making an impact, pushing the boundaries of research, innovation, and entrepreneurship.’

DUT DONATES 1000 FACE SHIELDS TO VARIOUS SCHOOLS IN KWAZULU-NATAL

The Durban University of Technology (DUT) in partnership with the Centre for the Advancement of Science and Mathematics Education (CASME) recently handed over 1000 face shields to various schools in KwaZulu-Natal, to help limit the spread of COVID-19.

About 30 schools received this generous donation of 3D printed face shields designed and manufactured by several staff and students from the Department of Information Technology and Mechanical Engineering at DUT. The face shields are produced at the University’s Luban Workshop at the Ritson Campus in Durban.

RESEARCH AND INNOVATION ACTIVITIES MUST CONTINUE: KEY LESSONS FROM THE JUST CONCLUDED IRIC CONFERENCE

The annual Interdisciplinary Research and Innovation Conference 2020 hosted by the Research and Postgraduate Support Directorate at the Durban University of Technology was held, last week from 15-17 September 2020.

The conference which was hosted virtually for the first time since its inception in 2016 was attended by delegates from South African institutions of higher learning and beyond. In its 5th year running, the conference recorded yet another success despite the COVID-19 situation.
