LITERACY MATTERS MORE THAN EVER!

Hello everyone!

Introducing our inaugural newsletter! Please be sure to subscribe if you haven’t already so that we can keep you up to date on all of our activities!

We are excited to be up and running again and are busy preparing to launch our fall programming. We are COVID-ready and taking all necessary precautions to keep everyone safe.

In spite of all the challenges facing each of us, we are encouraged by your support – whether as Director on our Board, a member of the Society, a program volunteer or learner, or a participant in our events – together we are making a difference in our community!

Thanks to all of our donors and supporters so far this year! You know who you are! ***

To see us get through the year, there is still an opportunity to help out via the Raise a Reader campaign, which will see any local donations “topped up” if the donation is made by October 7th . Please consider giving during this campaign as it’s a great opportunity to see your donation go further.

We would really like to rally some support for our youth who may be struggling socially and academically by offering some tutoring support. Our funding for this program was not realized this year. We are looking for a teacher and volunteers for this initiative.

From us to you, we wish you the very best the fall season has to offer!

Wendy Aasen, Executive Director & our Awesome Staff

There are many little ways to enlarge your child’s world. Love of books is the best of all!

The Raise-a-Reader campaign exists to empower today’s children and families with tools to improve their reading skills. These skills are the foundation for lifelong learning that significantly affects the quality of life and the health and social economic well-being of individuals, families and communities.

Literacy Society of the North Okanagan is proud to support the 2020 Raise-a-Reader campaign.

PROGRAM UPDATE

As you may know, most of our programming to date has taken place in our schools and library and has focused on individual one on one support. This year we are tasked with finding new ways and new spaces to offer this programming and our staff is rising to the challenge. Our delivery will change to small-group, and will blend the best of what we do with Reading Together and Skills Boost. We are adding math support, too, in fun new ways!
