Sydney Adventist Youth Newsletter, September 25th

Hi, I hope you have been well.

'Hi, I hope you have been well'

This is how I usually begin my emails. It's only just dawned on me, though, that maybe I need to start being a little more personal or creative with what I write.

Blogger, Aja Frost writes "The line is so ubiquitous it's become meaningless. Both the recipient and the email writer know it's a nicety thrown in before the real point of the email."

There are many 'small talk' phrases that we use all the time in conversation that are the equivalent of "hope you have been well".

'Hi, How are you?'

Sometimes we don't even let the person answer the question themselves. We follow our question with 'Good?', and then push the conversation in the direction we actually want it to go.

Funny, isn't it?

While these phrases are well-intended and not necessarily wrong in and of themselves, is it possible that we are missing the opportunity  to actually take a deeper interest?

Here's a challenge. This week when you go to type an email or text, or engage in small talk, use it as an opportunity to surprise someone, show genuine interest, or slip in a reference to the gospel. We often see this in Apostle Paul's writings:

"Grace and peace to you from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ, who gave himself for our sins to rescue us from the present evil age, according to the will of our God and Father,  to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen." (Galatians 1:3-5)

Apostle Paul never missed the opportunity to remind people of the gospel and good news of Jesus Christ.

He also always began with words of thanksgiving.

"I always thank my God for you because of his grace given you in Christ Jesus." (1 Corinthians 1:4)

He used warm words and showed genuine interest.

"I long to see you so that I may impart to you some spiritual gift to make you strong— that is, that you and I may be mutually encouraged by each other’s faith" (Romans 1:11-12)

Imagine getting an email like that?

Blessings,

Linda Ciric - Youth Departmental Assistant

ANNOUCEMENT!:

We are excited to announce that Pr Moses Depaz will be joining us in 2021 as the new Associate Youth Director for the Greater Sydney Conference. We believe that Pr Moses, and his family, will be a huge blessing to the young people in Greater Sydney and look forward to their arrival!

Here is a little introduction note from Pr Moses below:

“Hello, our family and I have been blessed to serve the local church in Western Australia for the past 7 years. I served as a Chaplain to the families at the Victoria Park Christian school along with the Spanish Church located on campus. I enjoyed serving alongside Pr Douw Ventor at our Vic Park Church, where we later moved to the Midwest-Gascoyne Region to serve as the Regional Minister to the churches there.

Through the trans course of time I’ve enjoyed working with the Camp Planning Committee to aid in the planning and execution of Easter Camp for the WA Conference.

Our family is excited to join the GSC Team to serve within the Youth department. We are grateful towards all the former Youth Leaders the conference has had in past and acknowledge their impact in aiding a spiritual journey for the Youth of Sydney, one which has had a positive effect for both Gez and I during our formative years as youth.

Blessings. Moses D. Gez, Ezekiel (10), Noah (7), and Abel (2).
