2021 Annual Pledge/Mission Funding Drive

In this time of social distancing, the annual pledge drive will happen virtually, starting on October 4. Now is the time to be considering your pledge for 2021.  When you consider the UUCJ mission—“By serving compassionately and connecting authentically, we change the world”—what do you envision for this beloved community?  It will take time, talent and treasure from each of us to allow us to live this bold mission as we move forward and thrive as a presence in the Jacksonville community.

Covid 19 has disrupted our lives during a time of great social unrest. Are you sitting at home, watching the news—the calls for social justice and need for change—but unsure of what you can do? Here is one answer! Join one of our ICARE house meetings and learn what the Interfaith Coalition for Action, Reconciliation and Empowerment (ICARE) is presently achieving in Jacksonville and give voice to your concerns about social justice and inequity in our community. ICARE will be taking on a new problem this year. We need you to give  your input as to the issue that will be researched and moved forward in the coming year. UUCJ has been an active supporter of ICARE with one of the largest and most active justice ministry networks.  Please join us in our efforts to make real change for social justice in Jacksonville!

You can join us online or in person:

September 27 @2:00pm via Zoom
October 3 @10:00am on UUCJ's outdoor patio
This meeting will be conducted following the Covid 19  guidelines established by the board.

Mark your calendars! “When we all work together—Great things happen!”

Contact a member of the ICARE team: Lois Hoeft; Brian Lapinski or Meg Rohal with any questions.

All UUCJ women and friends are invited. To receive an invitation, email your name, email address, and phone number to Joyce Milford (thumprm@gmail.com) with the title “UUCJ Women.” Our next meeting is Monday, September 28 at 5:30. Hope to see you then!

This week's topic: Mike Aiken presenting “The 1876 Election as Contentious as 2020”

Try planting a small home garden. If this is new to you, begin by getting two large pots, some planting soil, and two packets of seeds. Parsley and basil are popular, but you can choose other herbs. Plant the seeds, be sure to water, place in a sunny spot. You will enjoy seeing them come up, and definitely like going to your pots at dinnertime for very fresh herbs. You can also freeze or dry for later use. Have fun!
“Relief is a habit. Relaxation is a habit. Calm Is a habit. Peace is a habit. We can create those habits in one of two ways: 1) By releasing what causes a stress, or 2) By actively working on our peace and our relaxation.” From The Book of Relief.

Collect the things that work for you and incorporate them into life. Find you moments of mindfulness.
