Dear Wildcat Families,

Wednesday’s news of the verdict in the killing of Breonna Taylor has raised strong feelings for all of us. It’s hard to fathom how the justice system can stand by after an unarmed Black person is killed in their home, let alone by persons acting on all of our behalf as employees of the government.

Our teachers and counselors stand by, as always, to help your students process their feelings, emotions, questions, and concerns. Please encourage your students to advocate for themselves by asking for breaks, or space to talk individually or as a group about what is on their minds. With all the stresses students and families are feeling already, we have a variety of mental health supports available. Please encourage your student to reach out to their counselor if there is anything that they need, even and especially if they think that need is beyond hope.

La noticia del miércoles sobre el veredicto del asesinato de Breonna Taylor ha despertado fuertes sentimientos en todos nosotros. Es difícil imaginar cómo el sistema de justicia puede mantenerse al margen después de que una persona negra desarmada es asesinada en su casa, y mucho menos por personas que actúan en nuestro nombre como empleados del gobierno.

Nuestros maestros y consejeros están listos, como siempre, para ayudar a sus estudiantes a procesar sus sentimientos, emociones, preguntas e inquietudes. Anime a sus estudiantes a que se defiendan a sí mismos pidiendo descansos o espacio para hablar individualmente o en grupo sobre lo que tienen en mente. Con todo el estrés que los estudiantes y las familias ya están sintiendo, tenemos una variedad de apoyos de salud mental disponibles. Por favor anime a su estudiante a que se comunique con su consejero si hay algo que necesite, incluso y especialmente si cree que esa necesidad está más allá de toda esperanza.

Gracias nuevamente por confiarnos a sus hijos durante estos tiempos difíciles, y háganos saber si hay algo que podamos hacer para ayudar.
