ICYMI: A New Shard for a New Legacy

 


Yesterday we celebrated the 23rd Anniversary of Ultima Online with a livestream event where we announced our next major project - Ultima Online: New Legacy!

In case you missed it you can watch a replay of the livestream and the announcement trailer on the Ultima Online YouTube channel!  We have some great feature spotlights, dev hangouts, and livestreams planned for the channel so make sure you subscribe!

The response to UO: NL over the last 24 hours has been overwhelming to say the least!  We have been inundated with questions about what UO: NL is all about.  If you haven't already, you can check out the FAQ where we answer some common questions about what UO: NL will offer.  We've also picked some prominent additional questions to answer - check em out below!  We know there will be more questions as we press on so rest assured we will be keeping you up to date as often as we can!  Again we want to thank everyone for the support and look forward to embarking on this New Legacy together! 

Q: What era will this shard be like?


Our focus is to rethink, rework, and redesign the core Ultima Online gameplay experience and bring it back to its classic roots as an RPG.  It is difficult to specifically state what era the shard will focus on because we are not attempting to recreate a 1:1 copy of any specific time in the lifecycle of the game world.  That being said, the periods including The Second Age and Renaissance showcased a lot the simplistic and intuitive beauty that we are going for.  That also is not to say we will not be including features from other eras as well - but hopefully this provides a way to think about how we want the game world to feel.

Q: I do not want to play a game where another player can kill me or steal from me - is the new shard a place for me?  Is it consensual PvP and can I play without being harassed?  How does Trammel/Felucca fit into the game?

The traditional concept of “Trammel and Felucca” does not apply to a UO: NL shard. There is only one facet (The World) and within that facet we will support those who like to participate in PvP via an updated Vice vs. Virtue framework while those who would rather participate in PvM content can do so without fear of being killed.  That is not to say there will not be areas that will be free from danger - our primary design goal, however, is to give players the choice of participating or not.

Q: Will there be item insurance? 


Our design goals include providing features in place to prevent loss of items, but also additional features to offer the thrill of risk vs. reward found in old school Ultima Online.  We look forward to this being the topic of a future “Feature Spotlight” where we can dive deeper into the details of how we plan to deliver on this goal.  One thing we can say for sure is that none of these features will look or feel like how item insurance works on UO: Live.

Q: Are items obtained from the Legacy System account bound?

Yes, anything obtained via the Legacy System is bound to your account.  We will be taking a deeper dive into the Legacy System in a future “Feature Spotlight”.

Q: Why would I want to jump in 3 or 6 months before the Shattering?  What incentive do I have to not feel “left behind”?

One of the primary design goals is to keep the power difference between low and high end players as reasonably small as possible - this will allow character development to happen on scale in line with the lifecycle of the shard.  Whether you start on day 1 or day 200, there will still be a chance to forge your New Legacy.

Q: Will UO: NL be another Siege/Mugen?

No, we are not modeling UO: NL after Siege or Mugen in any way.

Greetings Everyone,

I want to start off by thanking everyone for all the support and interest we have been given in regards to the exciting announcement Ultima Online: New Legacy.  I would like to address something that I said yesterday about illegal 3rd party programs.  We do not now, and have never condoned 
these programs and will continue to figure out ways to stop cheating in UO while also preserving the functionality of approved third party programs we know many players rely on.

Several people have contacted me regarding not be able to unstack fishbait.  We are aware of this bug and it is in our queue to fix.  Just remember if you feel you will want to separate the fish bait at a later time please do not stack it until we announce this bug is fixed.

Please check out the current global event The Black Gate that is currently on all shards and will remain for a limited time.  The end date will be publicized in advance so you can make sure to complete the quest, but rest assured you will have plenty of time to participate in the quest.  While we are full steam ahead on UO: NL we have global events planned for October, November, and December.  Also, do not fret the EMs will continue to do their events so make sure you check out the event calendar for the different shard schedules.

October is right around the corner so I'd like to highlight our upcoming live release updates for October!

Trick or Treating - Visit your local NPC with your beggar to collect all the goodies they might have.  I am sure you will get enough candy to remedy your sweet tooth!
Skeletons - Make sure you visit your local cemetery to collect your bones!
Pumpkins Patches -  Two new Jack o' Lantern designs, "The Wolf" and "Welcome"!
Treasures of Deceit  -  Undead creatures abound!  Join in on the popular Halloween tradition!  Please know the rewards that were given out during summer testing are NOT the rewards that will be given for this event that is going live.  We have some really great rewards that I am sure you will want!

Ultima Store New Release

Decorative Guild Stones


These items will be available in the Ultima Store at the start of October.  Be sure to check out this new art with a touch of legacy!

The Guild Stone will provide a small amount of guild information when used,  There are 3 different designs.  One is the classic guild stone design.  The second and third ones are a larger version of the Rook and Knight chess pieces.  When you double click on the guild stone a gump will come up that gives information about the guild.

ACCOUNT RECOVERY VERIFICATION

For the billing support at support@ultimaonline.com to sufficiently verify ownership of an account you wish to recover, information that is currently set on the account has to be verified. Please note that account recovery requests are reviewed on a case-by-case basis.

If a secret word is saved on the desired account(s), we will be happy to provide the secret word hint(s).

Accounts that have been closed within the last year require the secret word and 2 pieces of information.

Accounts that have been closed for more than a year require only the secret word, if a secret word is not set then 3 pieces of information are required.

Information used for verification are as follows:
  • Account name
  • Email
  • First and last name
  • Date of birth
  • Phone number
  • Key codes
  • Payment information (CC)
  • Date account was open/closed
  • State/country

PASSWORD ISSUES
To reset your password you must first understand which type of account you are resetting the password for.
EA Accounts, Mythic Master Accounts, and Mythic Product / Game Accounts all have separate individual passwords. All of which you can reset at our Account Center at https://accounts.eamythic.com/.

       * Please visit https://signin.ea.com/p/web/resetPassword
       * At the EA page enter the email used to log into your EA Account to change its password.
       * If you have not received your password or have received an error while trying to reset the password and you have disabled all spam filters, please contact EA Support here.
 
TERMINATED ACCOUNTS
If you have an account that was terminated by CS over a year ago and would like to have it back, please contact the Dispute Team from the email associated with the account at dispute@ultimaonlince.com for further investigation and a possible one-time reprieve.

EA ORIGIN - ORDERS, CODES, AND THIRD PARTY RESELLERS

Sovereigns Coin Codes purchased from EA Origin have to be redeemed on the Account Center; you cannot enter these in game.
Sovereign Coin Codes that have been redeemed are bound to the EA Account they were redeemed on and are only usable by the accounts linked with that EA Account; Sovereign Coin currency may not be transferred.

If you are having issues with your EA Origin purchase, follow this link to resolve the issue.

CODE PURCHASE DELAY
You may have noticed that Origin Store purchases made did not arrived as expected. The Origin Store enacts reviews on all transactions to safeguard against fraudulent purchases, and these reviews may take up to 72 hours. Unfortunately our Billing department is not able to expedite or circumvent this process. However, players who have questions or concerns regarding a store purchase can contact Origin Support for assistance using the below steps:

2)  Select topic* - select Orders
3)  Select issue*
4)  Click on "Select contact option"
5)  Sign in with your EA Account or click on "Get help from an advisor without logging in." if you're having trouble signing in.

THIRD PARTY RESELLERS
We would also like to reiterate that the Origin store is the only guaranteed provider of codes for Ultima Online. The validity of a code purchased from a third-party seller (be it a friend, in-game acquaintance, or recommended site) cannot be guaranteed. Furthermore, any codes we find to have be fraudulently obtained will be disabled and an account that applies any of these codes will have that code removed from said account. This can result in the loss of game time, character slots, expansion access, Sovereigns (and the items purchased with them), in-game items and more. Please be advised that we cannot assist with any issues stemming from codes purchased via non-Origin means; you will be required to contact the vendor from which you purchased the code for further assistance.
