Welcome     Pastor Cynthia Cochran-Carney

Reading
You      read by Jeffrey Cochran-Carney

You
Greater than all we can think of
Smaller than all we can imagine
You
Farther than the universe and beyond
Near than the secret of our hearts
You
Breath of being
Before us and behind us

You
Force of life
Above us and beneath us
You
Speaking in many human tongues
Whispering in the depth of our souls
You
Inviting us into beloved community
Encircling all people with love

We come into your presence to praise you
Because you are
And we are
Through you and together with
You
Now and forever

Closing Words

May your day be blessed
by moments of quietness,
light in your darkness,
strength in your weakness,
grace in your challenges,
joy in your gladness,
peace in your stillness.

Sunday Adult Education Classes News

The Adult Education Committee is very pleased to announce that we are re-establishing a bit of normalcy back into our church life! Adult Ed programs will be starting at 11:00 am on the 1st and 3rd Sundays of each month beginning in October via Zoom, YouTube links and electronic videos. The other Sundays at 11 will remain as Zoom Coffee Hours, and the sermon topic will be the starting point of our conversations.

Join us on October 4 at 11:00 when Marty Tracy, the new Chaplain with the Street Chaplaincy, will share with us (via video) what it’s been like serving our unhoused neighbors during the Pandemic. Since Marty works at the Marin Medical Center on Sundays, Nick Morris, Administrator of the Street Chaplaincy, will be with us in the Zoom Room to answer our questions.

On October 18 at 11:00, Professor Kerrin Meis, will give a presentation on The Saints in Western Art. Professor Meis is a native Californian educated at Dominican University of San Rafael where she graduated Summa Cum Laude and the University of California Berkeley where she completed her graduate studies.  After teaching Art History at San Francisco State University for twelve years she taught at the College of Marin for ten years in addition to lecturing for OLLI programs at Dominican and Berkeley. In addition she has become the resident Art Historian at Book Passage in Corte Madera where she offers art history classes on a wide range of subjects.

We look forward to resuming our rich Adult Education offerings via Zoom until we can meet safely together again. (If you are not yet on Zoom and would like to be, please let Lorna Wuertz know and she will put you in touch with someone who can help you.)

New Wednesday Zoom Experience
Zoom  @ 11:00 a.m.
(new time) Starting Oct. 7

Beginning in October our Zoom time together will take place from 11 a.m. to Noon, rather than Noon to 1 p.m. as has been our practice to accommodate people's needs/desires during the lunch hour.  Our program will involve YOU.  You are invited to share a link to a video or documentary you've enjoyed, a poem or book or reading that is meaningful, a trip that stands out to you, or tell a personal story about something that has left an impression on your life. This will be a time of open conversation and exploration of ideas. When you come across something you'd like to share, schedule a Wednesday Zoom time to share it and facilitate the conversation with Susan.Isler.sport@gmail.com 415-272-2526.  What has fascinated you recently or in the past and still resonates?  You all have so many diverse interests and life experiences, we'd like to hear about them!

World Communion Sunday
Peace and Global Witness Offering, October 4

Presbyterians help transform lives through our work for peace.  Together, in the Spirit of God, we work to break the power of hate and heal the wounds of violence and division in the United States and around the world.  We join with other congregations in the Peace and Global Witness Offering because God offers us boundless peace.

25% of the offering remains with FPCSR for local peacemaking work.
25% goes to Redwoods Presbytery and Synod of the Pacific for regional peacemaking projects.
50% goes to the national Presbyterian Mission Agency for peacemaking work around the world.

Please give generously today or any time during October.  Checks are made to "FPCSR" with note - peace offering.  Or donations may be made with credit or debit card.

Racial Injustice: From Complicity to Commitment" on October 2-4.
First Presbyterian Church in Berkeley hosting virtual conference

“We invite you to join us for a weekend conference of listening to voices of Christians of color who are on the front lines of combating racial injustice. We’ve asked our exceptional conference speakers to speak to those of us in predominantly white churches with loving candor and honesty about the church’s complicity in racial injustice. We hope they will help us move from that complicity to overcome racial injustice in our own hearts and minds, so we may be able to commit, with energy and compassion, to the collective work of change in the church and in our communities. Our desire for this conference is that it will be a time of honest discovery, deepened understanding, calls to action, and hope."
