Greetings from the Bold North:

Twenty-twenty is, as we all know, not your typical year. At our house, the theme these days is Adjustments, which range from the inevitable to the trivial to the critical. There's adjusting to the changing of the seasons, and to a sixty-game Twins schedule. There's adjusting to our version of Full House, which now includes my wife, who's working at home, our daughter, who is supposed to be at college in Chicago but is doing it from her bedroom, and our son, who works and makes his home in Chicago, but can work from anywhere, and hey, the food is free here, and . . . There's adjusting to life without a Minnesota State Fair, settling for a culinary drive-through instead.

For me, the adjustment has been from Writing Mode to Promotion Mode, shifting my time and energy to the Deadfall release, and adjusting to the Era of Zoom, displacing normal in-person interactions. That's not to say it's all bad. Zoom is providing a real opportunity this coming Tuesday night, September 29th, to interact with readers here and all over the country. Once Upon a Crime bookstore is sponsoring a virtual launch event for Deadfall, and I'm looking forward to connecting with old friends, new friends, and readers I haven't seen for a while or have never even met. I'll be interviewed by Minnesota mystery author Rob Jung, and we'll be talking about Deadfall, my previous books, my writing process, or anything else you'd like to talk about.

As much as I miss having an in-person launch at OUAC, which I've done for all six of my previous books, this is a great alternative, sponsored by a great bookstore. I really hope you'll join me - just click here to sign up.

What I'm Working On:
Pen WIlkinson fans will be glad to know that I'm hard at work at the next installment. I've also completed a short story for the Minnesota Not So Nice anthology (see below). But I'm thinking ahead, seriously considering a standalone thriller - stay tuned.

What I'm Reading:
I recently finished reading Hard to Breathe, a medical thriller by my buddy, Minnesota ER doc Tom Combs. It's part of his Drake Cody series, and is a great read. And I'm currently working on FInd Me, a suspense-filled story by Anne Frasier, a great writer (and a nice lady).

What Are You Reading?
My readers and I are always looking for good recommendations. Let us know what you're reading these days.
