Engaging the Public on Science Through Science Fiction and Engaging Science-Fiction Producers with Science
As the Dean of Natural Sciences and someone whose specialty lies in evolution, genetics, and genomics, Mohamed Noor has been giving public talks and even teaching classes that use science fiction (mostly Star Trek!) to teach basic concepts in genetics and evolution. More recently, he has started doing some contract work with the Star Trek writers to help make the science in their shows more accurate. Come out to the Duke Conversations to hear more!

Before joining Duke in 2015, Taylor Blestch worked in industry with NetApp, an American hybrid cloud data services and data management company. He also has three patented systems, including a method for equalizing performance of computing components. From these real life experiences, Blestch would like you to join in on a conversation on doing engineering in real life!
