Grissom Parents & Students,

We had a great first week of “traditional” school.  Our students and teachers were excited to be back in the building.  I hope all of you had a great week.  K-12 Fuel Education mistakenly sent a welcome letter to all HVA students.  Fuel Education is only for grades K-5.  Please disregard that email if you received it. Make sure you check your child’s progress report.  We have many students with missing work.

Late/Missing Work: As you know, there have been a few issues with Schoology and remote learning all within the time that we are going through a worldwide pandemic. Due to these factors, many students have missing work in several classes. I have decided that we WILL ACCEPT late work at Grissom until October 16th.  We are making every effort to assist students in their studies during this unprecedented time.  The October 16th deadline will allow students time to catch up over Fall Break if they need it.  PLEASE CHECK YOUR CHILD’S COMPREHENSIVE PROGRESS REPORT.  If there is an “M” it is “missing” and needs to be turned in before October 16th.

ARRIVAL & DISMISSAL beginning Sept. 21st

Arrival and Dismissal will be the same procedure as last year.  I have attached the Morning & Afternoon Traffic Map at the bottom of this newsletter.

For new parents and students, please study the traffic maps.  Morning entry points are located at the Freshman Academy entrance (west side Haysland Road - where the Security Welcome Center is located) or Meadowbrook Drive (east side - near the baseball field).  Meadowbrook Drive is “enter only” in the morning.  Freshman Academy entrance is “enter only” with the exception of buses and special needs.  Freshman Academy drop off is double lane and near the steps.  Meadowbrook Drive drop off is located just past the auditorium.  The Freshman Academy drop off is the fastest and most efficient.  Please use Freshman Academy drop off if at all possible (Follow the White Tiger Paws).

Afternoon entry points are the same for Freshman Academy and this carline runs the same as morning with double lanes. However, the east side Meadowbrook Drive gate is exit only.  The traffic pattern on the east side is opposite of the morning pattern (Follow the Orange Tiger Paws).  Please use the Freshman Academy area for pick up if at all possible.  You will then avoid student driver exits.

When looking at the map, parents who are dropping off students should remain on the red map arrows only.  Do not enter the parking lot.  The parking is for student drivers, buses, and special needs students.
Walkers are not allowed to exit through gates. The front entrance is for walkers and bikers.  Do not drive in the front entrance.  This is not a pickup or drop off area.

HVA Students/Edgenuity Curriculum

HCS has purchased the Edgenuity curriculum to assist all students both HVA and traditional.  If you are an HVA student and would like to work on a completely virtual platform (Edgenuity), please email your grade level counselor.  Please understand that if you choose Edgenuity, you will be on a virtual platform that is completely self-paced.  Otherwise, HVA students will continue working in the same/similar manner as we have for the past 4 weeks.  Edgenuity curriculum may also be assigned by GHS teachers in units or lessons.

Due to policy changes made by College Board for this school year, we are extending the deadline for exam fees to be paid. The new deadline for the total exam fee to be paid is
Wednesday, March 3, 2021

Your exams must still be ordered by Friday, October 2, 2020, so you must join your teachers AP Classroom. In order to sign up for each teacher’s class, you must get a unique code from each teacher for your specific class period. Any exams that are ordered late will incur a fee of
$40 per exam in addition to the exam fee.

If you having issues logging in to your College Board account, you need to
contact your teacher or me as soon as possible.

AP Exam Fees and Payment Options:

Each content area AP exam is $95. Each AP Capstone (Seminar or Research) exam is $143.
Again, there is no AP exam cost for students who qualify for fee waivers.

AP exam fees may be paid electronically with a debit or credit card through the My School Fees online portal located on your high school’s homepage. AP exam fees may also be paid with a check and mailed to the school. Include “AP Exam Fees for (student’s name)”
on the check memo line.

Since we will be returning to school on Monday, September 21, 2020, you may ask your AP teacher how to pay for the exam during school hours.
