Pilates Schools Approval Program

What is this and why am I so excited?

The Pilates Schools Approval Program is a Pilates Method Alliance (PMA) initiative. I became a Nationally Certified Pilates Teacher (NCPT) in 2008. This was originally done under the PMA banner but is now fully independently managed. It is the only third party certification available for the Pilates industry in the world. A third party certification can be described as sitting the final exam as a newly qualified lawyer or  to become registered as a medical professional. You are tested against everyone else int he industry regardless of where you trained to check that you are up to date in your level of knowledge and pay a yearly membership fee. You have to be a certified teacher to apply to have your school recognised by the PMA

To gain approval for the Pilates Schools Approval Program (PSAP) the school has to fulfil 10 different educational requirements. It took me over 130 hours of work and a large application fee to gain this approval. I am so happy to make this option available to student teachers in New Zealand. Currently Hearts and Bones is now the only internationally approved Pilates training course in Oceania with the PMA. For you as a student it gives peace of mind that you are studying a recognised qualification that allows you to sit the NCPT exam and become a certified Pilates teacher. Please note that only the standard Comprehensive Training complies with this approval.
