International Keynote Panel Announced

The opening keynote panel for NPM's International Indigenous Research Conference (#IIRC20) has been announced!

Professor Linda Tuhiwai Smith (University of Waikato), Professor Megan Davis (University of New South Wales), Professor Charles Menzies (University of British Columbia), Professor Kyle Whyte (Michigan State University) chaired by NPM Co-Director Professor Jacinta Ruru (University of Otago) will discuss The Global Power of Indigenous Scholarly Gatherings.

This live keynote panel will open IIRC20 on Wednesday 18 November at 9.25am (NZ time)

There are just two weeks left to secure your Earlybird Registrations for our online IIRC20 conference "Gathering of Indigenous Minds" (18 – 20 November 2020).

Summer Internships Applications Open!

Applications for NPM's Summer Internship Programme are open! 30 summer internship positions will be selected and confirmed for our 2020-2021 summer programme.

Get your CV and application together and apply by 12 October!

Three inaugural internship awards are also open this summer. These scholarships honour three of our esteemed NPM scholars and their whānau.

  • Professor Michael Walker Scholarship: Understanding a taonga species: He Kohinga Mātauranga, He Iti Pounamu for our Te Tai Ao Research Theme
  • Associate Professor Mānuka Hēnare Scholarship: Whai Rawa Whai Ora: A tribute to Mānuka Hēnare’s vision for a healthy Māori wellbeing economy for our Whai Rawa Research Theme.
  • Professor Wharehuia Milroy Scholarship: Understanding, articulating and measuring the language shift at the micro-level for our Te Reo me ngā Tikanga Māori Research Theme.

All of our Summer Internships are for students interested in gaining some real research experience, and working with senior NPM researchers over the coming 2020-2021 summer.

Māori Soil Sovereignty and Wellbeing - Book Launch

To all those who till the soil and cultivate the gardens, welcome to the launch of this new resource.

With the recent uncertainties and variation in Covid-19 alert level restrictions across the country, editors Jessica Hutchings and Jo Smith, contributors and Harvest have made the move the launch of Te Mahi Oneone Hua Parakore: A Māori Soil Sovereignty and Wellbeing Handbook Online.

We hope you will join us to celebrate the launch and hear from the contributors, who will speak about their mahi.

Media Skills for Māori Researchers - 3 & 4 December

Adapt your messages for impact! Reach new audiences! Talk to the media with greater confidence!

NPM together with the Science Media Centre is once again bringing to its network the popular and acclaimed media and communications workshop for Māori researchers.

Established and emerging Māori researchers from NPM's partner network are invited to submit their applications now! All workshop fees have been waived, and limited travel and accommodation funding support may be available.
