Dear supporters
The message below is from the local NHS staff that are organising a demo this Saturday:
"Taking the lead from the amazing health workers that have been organising all over the UK over the last few months, we are holding a demonstration this Saturday 17th in Gloucester:
Arrive by 3 o clock at the Kings Walk outdoor space at the front of Debenhams.
We will be proceeding to the Cross and down Eastgate to turn right at Boots along the Park.
Please wear blue or scrubs. Masks will be mandatory. If you do not have one, we will supply you with one.
Please try to socially-distance, even if you are with your 'bubble', it looks bad if people are clustered together; supporters that do not appear to be practicing COVID security will give the NHS staff on the demo a bad name.
Background: This demo has been called in solidarity with health and social care workers around the country to demand fair recognition of everyone in the NHS family and their tireless work throughout the pandemic. If you clapped for us, please come and stand with us.
We believe it is a disgrace that so many people who worked so hard and risked their lives have been overlooked in the public sector pay rise. Without nurses, health care assistants, porters, cleaners and the whole NHS family we could not have made it through. For too long this work has been underpaid and undervalued and now NHS Workers say NO!
The government is squeezing our amazing national health service from all sides, and we can take no more.
We say NO to privatisation, deliberate underfunding, low wages and poor conditions.
Now is the time we ask you to stand with us. All support is greatly appreciated.
(Please note, #NHSPay15 organisers are health staff. Demos such as this are organised by the health workers themselves. We gratefully accept help from our allies in the unions and in politics but, essentially, we remain independent)"
There is a Facebook event you can share/invite friends to on the platform.
For more background see the "NHS Workers Say No" Facebook group. Nurses United UK also have a campaign to "Show your support for Healthcare workers and send an email to your MP" whether you are a healthcare worker or a support.
