City Announces New Payment Pilot in Marketplace Garage – Touchless with the ParkMobile App or Pre-Pay at Kiosk

In response to the current pandemic and changes to lane structure underway on South Winooski Ave, the Department of Public Works is launching a pilot payment system at Marketplace Garage to minimize contact and improve entry/exit efficiency.

On October 14, the entrance and exit gates will be raised at the popular downtown garage and customers will be required to start a parking session before leaving the facility by using ParkMobile, Burlington’s pay-by-cell app, or a kiosk on the ground floor.

Customers that choose to use the kiosk option will need to enter their license plate and can pay with cash or credit card. The kiosks will feature the same process as those used on-street and in lots around Burlington, such as St Paul Street.

South Winooski Ave Gets a Makeover

Here's a quick run-down of the "street re-balancing" going on right now on S. Winooski Ave in downtown Burlington:
  • Pearl to Main: bike lanes in each direction, one travel lane in each direction, and a center lane for left turns.
  • Main to King: on-street parking on the east side of South Winooski Avenue will be removed (parking will be maintained on the west side), bike lanes in each direction, and one travel lane in each direction
  • King to Maple: one travel lane will be removed, traffic circulation will change to southbound only for vehicles (which is consistent with the traffic pattern south of Maple), bike lanes in each direction.
  • A curb extension at the corner of Main Street, protected bike lanes between Main St and College St, and removable planted medians between Bank St and Pearl St.
