A Village Connection: Karen Peters and Karen Stowe
Karen Peters is from Pickaway County. She ran Peters' Farm Market off of Route 22 with her husband and then her son from 1972-2012. There, they lived on a big farmhouse. As time went on and it became more difficult to maintain, she told her husband "I thought you said you would build me a small house", to which he responded, "I thought you always wanted to live in German Village." So they started looking, and they moved into the home she still lives in, in 1995.
Karen Stowe is retired from OhioHealth. After retiring, she moved to Schumacher Place. Since then, she's been volunteering at Stewart Elementary and Village Connections for around 4 years. She found out about Village Connections from a friend volunteering at a sister Village in Clintonville.

Karen Peters is the first member Karen Stowe worked with and remains the member she works with the most. They've gotten along great since the beginning and she helps around the house and with transportation.

Karen Peters says she's been a member of Village Connections "since the beginning." Before Village Connections, Karen--who was diagnosed with a disease in the muscular dystrophy family in her 50's--had a difficult time trying to figure out transportation, having to coordinate with the schedules of both her doctors and the friend who would transport her.

Karen Peters says that for her, Village Connections "takes the pressure off"--she no longer has to worry about how she will get to appointments. She also enjoys being able to socialize with other members. Karen Stowe appreciates the
"ongoing effort to keep people connected and meet them where they're at." She says that she's always asked by friends if there's a Village near them because they always know someone who could use the services.
